Pushups, pull ups, etc and the USMC training

Ok fellow lifters, pending a medical check from Indianapolis, I will be enlisting into the United States Marine Corps.

What Id like to know from everyone is about the bodyweight type exercises and the Marines training regimine and how they effect the barbell movements, dumbell movements etc.
I dropped my bench in favor of push ups, and I am performing these every other day. I started off able to do but 25, but can now do 36. I also started doing underhand pull ups, and found Im not as good as these, but they will improve. These are pretty much a no brainer for me on how to increase reps, but what Id like to know is will it make my bench, JM, db press etc go absolutely to shit? And if so, would I be able to combine the weightlifting and push/pulls sucessfully? Just curious as to what will happen the next time I lift whenever that may be.

are you refering to the routine you will be doing in boot camp?

if you are, then no, they wont go to shit but they may decrease a lil just b/c more than likely you will lose weight in boot camp unless you are one of those guys that are way under your weight. you cant eat as much as you probably are now. i just got out in july, so if ya got any questions just pm me.

My brother is in the marines and the only think you should need to do is pushups, situps, pullups, and TONS of cardio. If you can run 3 miles in 18 minutes you will automatically become an E2. RUN, RUN, and RUN. Train for this so you won't get injured from the excessive exercise. You will lose weight. My twiggy little brother with no fat lost about 10lbs during boot camp.

3 miles in 18 minutes? Holy hell, I know I cant do that. Now my recruiter Srgt said that the longest distance they run is 3 miles. I have no prob running 3 miles, but my mile rate is prob between 10-8 at my best. I believe what she told me the minimum was 1.5 miles in 13 minutes, which I believe is 8 minutes 40 seconds per mile. Thats pretty difficult for me. However, you are only required to be able to do 2 full pull ups. I thought that was very odd. The one thing I dont want to drop is a gripping exercise, so Ill be taking a little hand gripper with me.
I know the hardest part for me will be the running. When I see any film of marines running, they're not doing under 8 minutes, so I thought it was an easier pace, but I guess I was way off.:bawling:
I do expect to lose at least 25 pounds, maybe 30. Id be very surprised if I lost more. One thing I havent started training is sit ups, she said 60 in 3 minutes. She said these were not full sit ups, but similar to crunches. I wont be alone on this endeaver because the Marines recruiters help you before boot camp and meet with you on a weekly basis to get you in some acceptable fitness level before getting hammerd by the DI.

I am inlisting into the Marines sometime this fall. My recruiter told me the same thing, just run, run, and run. and do pull-ups, sit-ups. These are for the PFT test, but in everyday PT routines i was told that you do dips, and push-ups. so i have been working out doing jsut these ecercises, and running and trying to get up my endurance and speed. I actually have a thread on there asking help on getting my speed and endurance up. Godd luck

18 minutes is max as in best you can do. and the 1.5 they were talking bout it the first test in boot camp 1.5mi in 13min or under. i couldnt run for shit b4 i went in. i'm still not a runner, but i usually ran round 22-23min 3mi. if you take that gripper w/ you , you wont be keeping it.lol. and the 60 sit ups is also the minumum. 100 is what u need to shoot for which isnt that hard at all. and the 2 pull ups, that just keeps you from getting dropped back in training, you will have to do more than that or you will get fucked with real hard. those marines you usually see running in movies and shit are marines already out of basic doing they're regular morning pt. if you are overweight you may lose 25lbs easy. i 'm not big at all and i went in at 5'8" 162 came out 142lbs. nasty. needless to say, i'm 175 now but you'll gain alot once you start lifting and eating again.

Thanks for all the responses everyone! I really appreciate them. My thing about being able to do 2 chins/pulls was that it seems so much less of a requirement than the other PFT minimums. I went to my first meeting last night and ran 3 miles in 35 degree weather. There were 4 of us and I came in 3rd, but this dude behind me, I thought for sure hed beat me bc he looks so much more fit. We started off doing pull ups. The first guy did like 21 or 22, then the next guy did 20, then it was my turn. Well I could only wrap off 7 or 8 so I felt like a dick for a second until the guy after me struggled for 3. But hey, he went in not bein able to do even 1 so hes doin great. That dude did 120 crunches in 3 minutes!! I could only get like 28 though. I know I got more in me, bc I did pull ups the day before and it made my stomach really sore that night, just to give an idea bc of the cold air I needed to cough and I really avoided it bc my stomach was so sore. I was curious why we didnt do push ups. Kinda disappointed too, bc Id been working on those. I started off with 25 max and Monday I could do 36, tonight Im gonna shoot for 40-45. Srgt can do 75, so thats somethin to shoot for.

About my deployment I gotta go now and get some papers signed for my med history release to send down to Indianapolis.

lots can be done with these simple exercises, no equipment needed. This is my usual vacation routine...
