Kettle Bells...

b fold the truth

Anyone ever use a kettle bell in their training? I made one today for $5 and used it a little for swings after my ME upper workout. That 56 pounder is heavy...lol.

I did 2 sets of 5 swings with each arm and my hams, glutes, erectors (head to butt), upper back, and upper shoulder (rear) were all worn out...lol.

Any idea where these could be added?

Anyone have any experience with these?

I plan to make a Throwing Hammer this week too:)

One use is to use them to improve your GPP, much like you would sled dragging.

Do circuits that include one and two-handed swings, one-handed snatches and clean and presses.

And like IronLion's suggested before, you could do Turkish Getups with them in the place of one of your abdominal moves.

I work with them a lot, obviously there are a million ways to use them....they can be put into almost any workout. My favorite thing to do with them is a swing through, I let the bells pull me all the way between my legs and use my hips not arms to explode up and then let the bells swing up to eye level and then back between my legs. This will loosen up your hips immensely, next to full cleans or snatches, this is one of the best ways to work hip explosiveness.

I am interested in how you made them so cheap, do you mind posting details? You should tell your buddy who makes the acree equipment that k-bells would be a very easy implement to make and sell.

Oh and btw a good addition to your kbell stuff is clubbells. Take a wiffle ball bat and fill it with lead shot and sand to get it the desired weight (8-12 lbs) to start, then seal it and put grip tape on the handles....there you go about ten bucks for 2. These can be used in a million different ways too, I mainly use them to work core, balance, and build shoulder stability, they are great to use with wobble boards if you have some...

I work out in the same gym as Iron Lion and we use Kettlebells and Indian Clubs a lot. Lots of swings.

Those 56 lbers are heavy aren't they? Well, last night we used 54's one in each hand, cleaned them to the shoulders, then did military presses overhead with them from the shoulder. Left hand then both hands then right hand then both hands until we could not do any more reps, then bent over and did rows with them, keeping the bell against the belly between reps, rather than the traditional keeping them at arm's length between reps.

Last week, we cleaned the 54's to the shoulder and walked the length of the parking lot. This is a killer.

Week before that, we went to the park so we would be on the grass, and alternated between doing figure 8's between the legs, swings, snatches, and overhead throws for height. The people at the park thought we were insane.

Another good thing to do with them, is hold them at arm's length overhead, and do olympic squats. Also, you can hold them behind your back, with the weight against your butt, and do hack squats with them.

Additionally, it is interesting to use them for turkish getups, 2 handed anyhows, curling, and grip work, via juggling the bells, or rolling them up onto their handle on the floor.

The Indian Clubs are also very interesting, and you can use them for many of the same movements described above. Squatting on a balance board while holding a pair of 12 lb Indian Clubs at arm's length in front of you is an experience you won't soon forget.

squat is not going at all. taking some time to heal up the hips. I am coming in at 6:30 6 days a week. Well, actually coming in at noon on Saturday, and 6:30 all other days.

Dude! I'll be taking part in a 8-hour hands-on workshop on August 16. The first four hours will be devoted to kettlebell training; the second to Oly-lifting.
(kettlebells: Mike Mahler; Oly-lifting: Christian Thibaudeau).

I know for fact that a video of this workshop will be made. And we'll be purchasing from Mike our own set so that we can continue the training.

Just PM or email me: I'll be soooo very happy to provide you with tips (that I learned from the workshop) to anything else "kettlebells" (some good tips above, too :) ).
