It's like using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut, getting to 10% shouldn't require extreme measures (like a fullblown keto diet) unless you're impatient ... and impatience in dieting almost always means losing more muscle than you should.
I don't disagree the 'atkins' approach is fine for the regular overweight person who's unconcerned with performance, but strength will take a hit when there's nothing in the tank. My strength was in the toilet when I tried 5 day delepetes, and I could not focus in the gym enough to 'bring it'.. on a generous serving of tren & 60mg ephi preworkout too
imo doing it (slightly) slower with a half day carb cut off ala DC (and carbs after training) plus cardio should be really all he needs to get to a respectable bf%, and maintain strength.. but then that might not matter at all to him in which case I'll shut up
