Is it possible to do cardio without running?

Is it possible to replace cardio training with lightweight intensive training? The problem is that it is very cold where I live, so I can not go out to run, or ride a bike. Neither can I go to a gym for a treadmeal. I might as well take a relatively light kettlebell, and train intensely with it. Would it work for me as cardio for some cutting and additional definition, or I need to do something else? WOuld like to do burpees, but my head starts to hurt really badly when I do so many ups and downs with it.

do you have an indoor track anywhere?

the best form of cardio is going to be running outside, you unfortunately cannot get even close to results on a treadmill or jacking off on the elliptical like i see so many people do.

just like you don't see marathon runners training indoors, they are outside running. same with bicyclings.. did lance armstrong train by doing spinning classes or by actually bicyling on the road?

Yes it is, some people prefer doing HIIT to steady pace cardio and even claim it works much better for them

The purpose of cardio is to basically burn calories. It really doesn't matter whether you run, bike, swim, etc.

I live in Canada where it's winter 8 months of the year. I pretty much always have to do my cardio in the gym because there's usually snow in the ground. Try using the step mill. It is by far the hardest piece of cardio equipment. Use the machine where the stairs actually revolve so there is no way you can cheap.

30 minutes on the step mill and you will be dripping in sweat. That's a promise.

Anything that gets your heart rate up is cardio so really you can do whatever you want. You can even try Jim Stoppani's method of cardioacceleration. This is when you do something like run in place during your 45seconds rest between sets. It keeps the heart rate up.

Cardio is not about running from one point to another - it is about making your heart work hard for a determined amount of time. Therefore, many fast-paced exercises will get your heart beating like a beast, and you will easily consider them as cardio training. You can do a lot of these with kettlebells.
