I'm giving the "Pre-Work Out Carbs" idea a test drive

So far the experiment is not going too well, I started this morning and so far I'm feeling weak, sleepy and tired... not a good feeling at all. I pretty much dout it will all go away with 50grs carbs later on. This reminds me of all those threads I have read about people feeling like shit when they try the keto diets (haven't had any carbs so far today, and it's already 4:0 pm)

BTW, what are your thoughts on how long before lifting should I take these carbs in? I thought 1 hour would give it enough time to hit the blood (oats, 0,3% milk and flax meal), but with the flaxmeal in it, maybe 2 hours is more like it???

OPINIONS, I am leaving in 1 hour.

are you using carb countdown? that shit contains maltodextrin, I hope you're taking it with your PWO and not your oats. It'll raise your insulin higher than the raisins youre dying to make your oatmeal with

I just had to check the container, my wife drinks the 2% and I drink the Fatfree, no maltodextrin. Milk is such a hotly debated item. Some swear it will turn you into a bloated diabetic, and others tell you not to drink it after a workout because it won't spike insulin enough. If milk is being consumed with complex carbs AND protein, I would think that any insulin response from milk alone would be negated by the slower digesting carbs and protein. IMO. I am very sensitive to simple carbs, milk has never been a problem for me. It doesnt make me fat. The oreos and chips ohoy that I dunk it in makes me fat.

Maybe I'm just lucky?

well, a little update on my findings after the first day:

1. The oats with flaxmeal (slightly ground flax seed) tastes GREAT... after the first gulp I thought (wow, this tastes familiar), then I got it: It tastes like Stracciatella Ice cream... I'll be damned if tonight I'm not putting that big bowl of oats in the fridge to cool down and thicken a bit... yumm yumm Give it a try!!!

2. I did not notice any improvements in strenght, though I managed to add 10 lbs to my bicep curl... (maybe by sheer willpower)... I did however felt tired, grouchy, moody during the day (maybe a conseq of not eating any carbs until 7:00 pm???)

3. When I started doing cardio I felt week as hell, I suspect I hit the "wall" since I was running on fresh carbs during the lifting any maybe part of the cardio... never before had I contemplated the possibility of cutting into my cardio duration, last night I cut it short at 40 mins... I was exhausted and drenched...shit i didn't enjoy that.

So, for the sake of completeness I am going to try this thing for 1 week to be able to see if it works or not... I am also drinking that oat-thingie 2 hours before lifting instead of 1 or 1.5... the flax seems to greatly delay the absorbtion (reason why I might had the wall thing with the cardio).

Anyway, will report later on.

Oh yeah, 2 additional lbs lost this week... YEEHAAAA!!!
