If You Are A Waitor

You are constantly running around. I did this for over a year and sometimes I wonder if the guests are staring at my legs because the need toothpicks...

Since Ive been doing alot of leg work my quads, hams and gluts are getting alot of attention, but my calfs still look pathetic. So....
I went to Sports Authority and bought those 5Lb Ankle weights. I worked an 8 hour shift today with 5 pounds on eachpart of my lower legs...My calves felt it.

I heard the only way to train calves is with high reps because those muscles are used to alot of repatition due to walking. So Now I do my work, get paid, and get a decent workout. I started with 5. If i can I would eventually like to get up to 20lbs on each leg. Woohooo, thunder calves.

and your knees will be shit because of the shearing forces of moving around laterally, the constant weight pulling at your leg to hyperextend etc.

5-20 lbs at the base of your calf wont make make a big difference. high reps yes, but high reps with load. you felt some work get done, you may get some results. but unless you gain about 100 lbs, you wont get too much. the risk to your knees outweighs the minimal benefits you will get.

Now I consider my calves to be my weakest muscle, and I have read a lot about high rep workouts, but they just dont make sense to me. If you think about it, our calves do high rep workouts with our body weight all day long. I feel that extremely heavy weight is the way to go. I have been training them heavy for the last month or so, and I can honestly say I feel as though I see a difference. Tonight I also varied my stance on the standing calf raises (straight, inward, and out) and I felt areas of my calves hit, that I didnt even know existed! It just seems intuititive to hit them with very heavy weights, because they are used to our body weight and lots of steps/reps. This make some sense? What do you guys think?

Hmm, I'm genetically gifted when it comes to calves. They're proportionately huge compared to my thighs and the rest of my body. I can't remember the last time I trained them directly either...

Damn you genetically gifted calf people :destroy: :D

Hmm, they do help me run quickly, but I'd trade that for some bicep size :D Damn those genetically gifted arm people... :destroy:

Hahahah. Man I always tell my lifting partner, that I would trade my arms for his calves anyday!!!! Here in the desert there is no hiding weak calves when it is 110 degrees out!!!!

. My calves are probably like 10.Well. I’ve been doing a lot of lunges lately.. I read that they strengthen your knees.
