Cutting

When you take in less CAL than you use, theoretically you burn bodyfat. Trainers, Nutrionists and my personal trainer told me to do that, and even set the diet up for me. They said to continue lifting like I was (5'11" 235 @ 12 % so once water drops prob around 185-190 when lean) and just let the diet burn the rest. Then I was @ 215 and 12.5-13%. So they said, "Well let's try using some cardio". Now I'm at 200 and 13-14%. Why am I only losing muscle when I'm:
- keeping my cals 6-800 below my BMR (one cheat meal every7-10days)
- Pro. @ 1-1.5 per pound
- Carb @ 75 day 1 100 day 2 and 125 day 2 (3 day cycle recomended to me)
- Fat @ 25 -50....sometimes I might have more steak than chicken and hit 75
* Lifting still on a 5/6 day split
* Cardio was @20 min orig, then 30/45 min 4/5 days a week (sep from lifting)
* Water @ 1+ gal a day
*Supps. @ multivitamin, fiber, and I tried fat burners but they're all SHIT

What do you guys think...Now I can't even drop a single solitary pound...I posted this a few weeks back, but I've tried diff cardio times/amounts since then, and it didn't work. If you got any info, please let me know. This previous responses were great, but unfortunately didn't yield any results. Thanks

Hmm, sounds like your burning muscle for fuel. What is your PWO shake/meal like? I'd try upping the protein intake. It might be the long cardio sessions that are causing the muscle loss. Try incorporating HIIT instead of cardio just 3 times per week, which really negates muscle loss and burns fat better anyways. You might also try muscle sparring supplements like L-Glutamine. Personally I can't do more than 4 quality weight days when cutting but if you can, go for it.

Sounds good....I'll try the next 2/3 weeks doing only HIIT 3-4 times a week. As far as PWO shakes go, I'm using VP2 @ 25 initially after w/out and 25 thirty minutes later.....then by the time I shower, change and get home I can have an actual meal. And the Glutamine is all square away..I agree It's a must. Thanks for the thought. I 've never done ONLY HIIT. Instead, i've always done 20-30 or 30-45 min cardio routines WITH some HIIT when cutting. So, I'll try it w/out the lengthy cardio.. Thanks again

My BMR is around 2500 give or take, so i try to take in around 2000 on an average, so I won't go too low. But like I said above, I go @ 1800 for a day or so, then 2000, then maybe 2200 once a week only....then back down to 2000 and 1800. This way I can keep my metabolism steadily burning. Whenever I keep my cals at exactly on amount, I actually start to gain weight. Weirdest shit I ever seen, man. Anyways, let me know what you think. Thanks again

You sound like you're consuming too few cals per day. My maintenance is 2300 per day and I'm 170lbs - 2300 is a pretty slow metabolism considering my weight/cardio. I'd probably move to 2500 cals per day and stay there for a while - see if things change for you. Good luck!

Sorry to hear that bro - it SUCKS when that happens. Here are my thoughts:

It sounds like you've underestimated your BMR. Additionally 600-800 cals under is a bit much anyway - you should be shooting for 400 cals under your TRUE BMR (which you find out yourself by experimentation).

- Carb @ 75 day 1 100 day 2 and 125 day 2 (3 day cycle recomended to me)
- Fat @ 25 -50....sometimes I might have more steak than chicken and hit 75

Your protein seems okay, but one of these two are too low. You need to either up your carbs to fuel yourself or up your fat to fuel yourself that way. It sounds like your protein is being used as fuel due to you not taking in enough carbs/fats.

* Lifting still on a 5/6 day split
* Cardio was @20 min orig, then 30/45 min 4/5 days a week (sep from lifting)

I can see why you lost muscle here - you're doing too much for your calorie intake which is a sure-fire recipe for catabolism. Try lifting with more intensity 4 times a week with cardio 3 times a week in addition.

Posts like this depress me - cos it sounds like you're REALLY trying hard and you have things pretty good yet aren't getting results. Hope things turn around for you bro. Good luck.

I really appreciate your responses. These are easily some of the best and most honest answers I've gotten on this issue. I wrote down all that you guys have suggested and will be putting it to use today and throughout the next month or two. So thanks again and good luck to you as well...Fire
