Is there room in a healthy diet for catsup?? 1 tblsp is only about 15 cals, 4g of sugar....I don't consider the sugar to be too evil, especially if the rest of the day is "clean." Especially with the lycopene catsup has.

I'm not cutting or bulking or competing.........and I prefer to get my nutrients from food instead of pills....

Opinions??

Well, lycopene from actual tomatoes would be a better choice, but nothing in moderation is bad for you. I used ketchup on my eggs to get them down easier. The sugar is fructose, but if you're not in this as a career, there's nothing wrong with it.

Jen - check out the carb-free Ketsup

I've seen it but the price is waaay too high.....I'm unwilling to pay that much for it....

However, my concern is the 4g of sugar per tblsp and its effect on insulin levels.......how much should I be concerned by 1 measly tblsp of catsup??

Not very much, if at all. Do you follow a CKD or anything? That's the only time I could see you worrying about it, due to the carbs possibly kicking you out of ketosis.

Again, anything in moderation is okay.

Nope I'm not on CKD, but I keep track of all my food via fitday.com.....I have read studies showing how bad fructose is on the body via the corn syrup, but I still wasn't sure if 1 tblsp of it would be THAT bad....studies show that the testing was done on people who consumed very high amounts....

"Very high amounts".

Exactly.....so for someone who doesn't consume chips, cookies, crackers, etc as much as the "average" person would, does the issue of consuming "any" amount of high fructose corn syrup as small as 1 tblsp of catsup per day have any effect on the body?? Or am I being too anal??

Basically ketchup = tomates + sugar + different chemicals (preservatives and so on)

But a tbsp or 2 per meal won't hurt you (if you're not on a really strict diet)
