Yearly Body Cycle ?

Strider

New member
I was asked this morning a question, and I am forwarding on to all you wise people.

Do you go through a yearly cycle, such that in the winter your body naturally holds on to fat as it gets colder?

My response was, No. At this time of year people naturally consume more, and are less active therefore there is this perception that it seems that way but in fact it isn't.

Then I got thinking about the animal kingdom and how animals "fatten" up for the winter and that maybe there is part of us that still in some way follows an annual cycle.

Thoughts ?

When man was wild and lived w/ nature, YES! this would be absolutely true; now w/ our day to day couch potato/football watching life it's really not applicable.

but as it has only been in the last 100 years we have gone from the fall harvest and storing food for the winter to being able to run down to the corner store for a bag of chips before the big game.....do you think "evolution" and "nature" have altered the human cycle that fast (3 generations), assuming there was one. I would have to say no. Therefore if there was one there still is one.

It's been WAY over 100 years since people have experienced the Industrial revolution and a new way of society. Even the Roman Empire had corner restaurants - it goes way further than most things. We have adopted to society and help from our inventions, dont' expect the nature cycle to effect you now.

Yes but the industrial revolution did not hit everyone and not everyone lived in Rome. An even since the industrial revolution there have been food shortages / cold tempuratures that would require an extra layer of "fat"

Take for intance the Native Americans. When did they start living in modern "civization"?

I guess if it was there before I still have to believe part of it is there even to this day, kinda like body hair is no longer an environmental need but we sill have it.

Thanks

You're confusing the facts; it only takes a few generations to change adaptation - even Darwin pointed out the mere changes he saw. The reference you make to NA and others have nothing to do w/ me b/c I'm NOT a native american. For the most part, NA have been "with society" for over 100years, and ,as you see, they have their own problems.

Simplest way to look at it is this: you are now in you comfortable house w/ all your utilities and heaters, typing on your computer - it really doesn't spell nature or nature related. Trust me, we're so far away from being effected by nature that we are almost in our own world. Give it 50 years, we'll have destroyed 1/2 our planet by then.
