Starting 5/3/1 Tommorow

5-3-1 is completely different then 5x5 when you do it.

Honestly they aren't even close to the same feel.

5-3-1 to me sorta feels like a typical powerlifting protocol with the main lift and then assistance lifts after. Also the loading with percentages gives it that feel too.

Then it does a complete 180 when you almost go to failure on your top end set and it feels almost like a hit workout right there.

5x5 stalls after 1 cycle for the most part, you can't just keep adding 5 lbs. to your 5RMs every week, your body will stop making gains. The 5/3/1, while it may be slower in the short run compared to the 5x5, offers steady gains where you will never really have to be worried about stalling since the increments you add to the weight come at a much slower rate.

I would do 5x5 until you stall and then move into the 5/3/1, 5x5 is a little bit of a grace period.

Do 5x5 till you stall, then switch to 5/3/1. I like it better because it is just one big lift a day as opposed to three, so that by the end of the work out you still have energy and time for assistance. The max reps at the end of the big lift is alot of fun and something I look forward to each session. You also have alot of room to play around with your assistance.
