Spaghetti?

I see everyone posting about the virtues of brown rice etc, but what about spaghetti? Looks like its GI is lower than that of brown rice, so would this be a good idea to have some with casein or a can of tuna before bed? I am on a cutting diet, and Im so sick of brown rice already :) !

It shouldn't be that bad if you give yourself a window of at least an hour before bed and its not a lot of spaghetti. Measure your portions. The thing that gets people about spaghetti is that its very calorie dense so people don't realize a correct portion size and end up eating a plate full which is a lot of calories, especially before bed. I prefer to have very little carbs before bed and have mostly protein and omega 3 fats for my last meal.

IMO, rice isn't that great a source of carbohydrates except post workout. I stay away from any carb source that is carbohydrate dense unless it's post workout. I also think the glycemic index isn't as useful as some people make it. There are some tasty low carb pastas on the market now. Mueller's rotini comes in a 12oz box of six servings, each serving has 16g protein 1g fat and 31g carbs(12g fiber,1 sugar, with total net carbs of 19g).

I got the mini-scale in my kitchen, so I'm set for the portions. Damn brown rice takes forever to cook and tastes like junk. I think Im gonna opt for a little spaghetti al dente tossed with a little olive oil, oregeno, garlic powder, and maybe some romano. Doesnt that sound nice :)
