Please help - almost in tears here

VooDoo Lady

New member
I'm sorry to be so needy ladies, but I have a depressingly limited mental capacity and sometimes I just don't get it.

This is day 4 of my clean diet, and I understand some weakness/lack of energy is normal as my body adjusts to the new diet....but....

I tried to workout this am (which is HIGHLY unusual for me as I traditionally have worked out in the evenings). I was going to do 45 min cardio and then go back later today w/hubby to lift.

I did about 20 minutes of the Stairmaster thing (it's a large machine where there are actual steps rotating) and I thought I was going to die/pass out/puke. I had to stop...and go home to eat.

I tried to eat oatmeal this am, couldn't choke it down, so I had Kashi Go Lean cereal with fat free milk (just a little bit) and a low fat yogurt. After my disastrous attempt at a workout I ate a piece of whole grain bread with the teeny tiniest bit of PB, and a chicken breast.

Yesterday I ate:

9am bananna

11 part of my chicken breast/steamed cauliflower/kidney bean lunch

12 salald with fat free dressing and grilled chicken

3 the rest of my lunch

5 Nutrigrain bar (oops)

8 grilled chicken salad with fat free dressing, carrots, broccoli, egg

I didn't work out yesterday because I had NO energy and I got plenty of sleep last night.

Will this pass? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks guys.......... :bawling:

Get a grip on yourself.

Then, add some complex carbs in throughout the day. You can't change metabolism overnight. You need carbs to do any sort of exercise except a slow walk. Once your liver stores are depleted, you crash (as you described). The brain needs carbs to function and the only place left to get them from is muscle breakdown. Your body will adjust, but you just can't cut carbs out overnight and expect the body to adjust in a few hours.

looks like you need more carbs for what you do in your day....next time you feel sick eat a banana. I've had the same problem and for some reason this always helps.

Get a grip on yourself.

So true! I wrote this while eating and the food hadn't even hit my stomach yet. I was, what I like to call, 'panic-y hungry.' :freak:

I will add more carbs, and the met-rx RTD shake, keep my heels dug in, and keep moving forward.

Thanks guys..

BTW - please keep suggestions coming, if you got 'em... :)

Am I missing something here??? Looking at your diet, where did you cut carbs??? The day prior you had a banana and a nutrigrain bar....full of carbs...Looks to me like you need more food in your diet as well. You are not eating enough meals...I would pass out too if I only ate that. It takes getting used to...you should slowly take carbs out of your diet. Do a rotating carb diet..few days low 1 day high....higher carbs on the days you work out.

Doing a low carb diet is not fun...but you really gotta suck it up and deal w/ it. Yeah its not comfortable and you will not be overflowing w/ energy...but its hard work!! You will have good and bad days...and you will adjust in your workouts..first few times are hell. What are your goals??? What are you trying to do??? The only time I cut carbs way back is for a show etc...I really think you need more clean sources of protein..and try taking your carbs in early in the day...and stay away from nutrigrain bars...eat oatmeal, yams, rice..etc...no junk.

What about FAT!?!?!!?!?!?

You still need fat in your diet, plus it slows the absorption of carbs so that your carbs last 3-4 hours. remember 30/30/40? 30% is FAT. Use olive oil, almonds, flaxseed if you can take it.

Also the carbs you are downing suck. Bannana and nutri-grain bars are high GI foods; you need to go with lower GI foods. Some here will disagree but apples and pitted fruits (peach, nectarine, plum) are the way to go. Check out the Zone diet; it makes sense and is a good starting point.

Lastly, are you taking a multivitamin?

Do you need some creative recipies for oatmeal? Some high protein tricks? We've got a few things up our sleeves!
spatts, I need some creative recipes for oatmeal, I have hated the stuff since I was a kid... so enlighten me!!:D

Sheesh I'd pass out if thats all I ate. Even while dieting I eat more than that. I try to stuff something in every 2 hours. About 1/2 hour before lifting I take an ECA for a little extra energy.

Voodoo -

YOu are now experiencing the hardest part of dieting..... accepting the diet. The first hard part is eatign 5-6 times per day. Then gettign into the eating -- the mind set of eatign for fuel not for pleasure. I used to hate oatmeal, now I mix in my strawberry protein mix and its like candy! It also takes about 3 weeks to establish a "habit", so i guess you just have to be patient. Consider this diet your "lifestyle", not just something that u do for a short period of time.

Be patient & persistent and let your body adjust. Also if you aren't used to doign 45 min of cardio, then start at how much you can do and build up --- it takes a certain degree of conditioning also.
