Ok You Leg Warriors You Talked Me Into Squatting and Now My Lower Back is Killing ME

Excellent. Just remember that out of all the excercises you can do, form on squats and deads is MOST important. They're both easy to fuck up form-wise, so make sure you're doing them right. Good luck bro!! :)
 
When I first started squating, I always had this strange feeling in my lower back. Well, I stopped squating for a while and strengthened my erectors, now back to squating and everything is aOK.
 
you might want to decrease the weight just until your lower back gets a little stonger. but keep doing them, even if it's not working your legs as much as you would like, it's catching your stabilizer muscles up to where you legs are.(that's my current situation).

and make sure you keep your head up a little, stick your butt out and tighten up your abs.
 
Curling -

Not too sound condescending - but having never worked done squats or deadlifts - Did you really not expect to feel sore in your lower back? Take some of the advice offered - back down on weight, watch your form, and strengthen your erectors.

But hell - even then - your back is going to be sore after some heavy squats. Expect it and cherish it.

Let's you know you're growing.

Think of squatting as if you have a chair behind you and you are sitting down into it. This helps me keep my knees behind my toes. Also, keep you eyes forward, not down. This should keep your back arched better. Lastly, I agree with fhg43 to a point. Don't do squats and deads on the same day. I have a pretty strong back, but still don't think it would be a good idea to put my body through that. Also, you can't possibly go all out through sets of both in the same day!

arched?....yeah keep it arched.:rolleyes:

keep it neutral. no arch no round back. learn to squat with a neutral spine, your discs will thank you for it later. build up your strength proplerly so you dont have to go back and fix it later. squat with a neutral spine, all the way up. that means wherever your torso points...so do your eyes(so there is no cervical extension). squatters that look up, i have to reteach. squatters that arch their back...i have to reteach. squatters that use a belt...i have to reteach. once they relearn...their core is stronger than it ever was and low back pain is not an issue.

unless your goal is powerlifting, learn a squat that is safe AND effective.

ah. i gotcha.

many times this turns into a strong arch, natural curve is considered "neutral" spine. but that arch comes into play when many start looking up or even straight ahead.

Good point, happens for me when look up. BTW, how do you get the post to recognize who the quote is from?

Hit "quote" on the bottom of the post you want to "quote" from. Then put you reply after the last [ /quote] thing.
