One thing you have to remember is that Jun Fan is the actual art & JKD is the Philosophy behind it. When you are at the dojo ask the instructor to explain it to you. I like the Jun Fan. But, if you are looking for a more "self defense" class to take, I would suggest Muay Thai or grappling. Because there you learn how to defend yourself standing up and on the ground. That is what I love about Vale Tudo. Check around at other places if you can and try out a couple of different classes. That is what I love about our dojo is that we have everything there to try ( Muay Thai, Grappling (JJ), Jun Fan/ JKD, Wing Chung, Kali & Vale Tudo).
