Involuntary muscle contractions - Vastus medialis (quadriceps)

I was doing squats three times a weeks, 3 sets of 20 til I started having this contractions on my left legs muscle, quadriceps. It happens randomly or when I put pressure with my hand on the muscle, today I had it for as long as 3 secs, I doesn't hurt much but now is kinda sore. It has been a week already and is not going away...
what can I do? anyone had this happen?
 
Nothing wrong with the volume. Some athletes squat nearly every day. Probably tight muscles, get into a good developmental stretching routine.

3 sets of 20 3 times a week is a lot of volume for someone who is just trying to gain muscle.
 
Maybe - but we're not even discussing what he's trying to achieve form his routine. We're talking about his sore quads, he's not even mentioned gaining muscle.

ALSO If he is a newb or getting back into it, 3 sets 3 times a week at low-mod intensity is a great way to start out.
 
Yeah I'm a newb and trying to gain muscle, I'll take another week off to fully recover and work on that stretching, thanks.
