How long should it take to not be soar

OK, I did deadlifts for the third time ever on Monday (today is thursday). Every time I've done deads, my lower back was so soar(in a good way) that I could barely bend over the next day because my back was so tender... the day after that it generally feels about 85% recovered and I could go about my regular activities. Anyways I did a set of three reps(with the most weight I've ever lifted) on Monday, as well as 3 or 4 more sets between 4-8 reps with varying weights, and still today, my lower back is SOOOO tender. I've gone in the hot tub every day since then (more for my shoulder and cuz it feels good) but the back just won't heal...
Do deads always require such extreme recoveries when you go heavy?
Thanks
Ryan

Deads and squats are the most compound movements you can do, meaning that they incorporate the most muscles to perform. You're new to deads and it's only been three days. That's not unusual. I'd say you're looking at another couple days.

Also, again since you're new to deads, you shouldn't be lifting heavy yet. Start light and work up slowly. You're young and your back can handle a lot, but you will fuck it up for sure if you go too heavy too soon.

Heh.. How do you know I'm young? :) I'm 21... I think that is still considered young :)
I wasn't lifting all that heavy... Only 255.
Anyways.. I appreciate the feedback! :)

The 3rd or 4th time you do the workout, i'll stop hurting. Keep to your routine tho, if you wait 2 weeks until the muscles arn't sore anymore then next time its gona be just as bad. So eventhough they might hurt keep going

Agreed. It's ok to work them while they're still sore, as long as you've given yourself a good amount of recovery time, which you have. Welcome to deadliftland young man. :)

Thanks for the info guys...
I wish I had discovered dead lifting 5 years ago when I first started lifting... I'd probably be have at least 10 lbs more LBM than i do right now... I used to be terrible for neglecting my back and my legs... now its catch up time :)
Thanks
Ryan
