heartrate?

New member
I've been doing cardio at my gym for a couple months now. I usually run a couple miles before lifting. My gym just got some new treadmills with heartrate monitors. After running for 25 minutes I checked my heartrate and it read 182bpm. Isn't that very high, possibly dangerous. I asked if the monitors were accurate and was told yes. Just want to know if i'm about to kill over or not?

that seems VERY high man, the average bpm for an adult i about 72-75 bpm, for being on a tread, i have no idea, but that seems wrong.

LOL dont listen to to that Kid....
182bpm Is not very high after doing intense cardio
and I wouldnt really call that dangerous cuz mine goes up to 250'sbpm
You heart rate should return to normal rate when your relax. My resting heartrate is about 63bpm.
Your goal is to raise it as high as possible in a short time so it could could compensate and beat less when your resting. Low Heartrate = Healthy heart

for cardio you should keep your heart rate at 70% of the max. if you go higher than that your body will go into an aenerobic state which means you'll either be tearing down muscle or building it, which defeats the soul purpose of doing cardio. I don't remember how you figure it out, a buddy of mine did it for me.....but I'll try to remember to ask him, pm me when you get the chance and I'll let you know.

I don't know how much you weigh or what kind of shape you're in, but to think that the higher the better is just plain silly. For optimum fat-burn you need to be around 70%, like bigmag said. For me, at 160 lbs/19/5'9", it's about 140. That's a good area for most people. This link http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/hrm1.htm has a calculator to determine the best heart rate for fat burn, and also explains the levels. Check your pulse as you run. A good rule of thumb is you should be able to carry on a conversation while you're running. You shouldn't be huffing and puffing.

TRU DAT if your goal was to lose Bodyfat....
But if your goal was to lower Heartrate
I reccomend raising your HR to as high as possible in
a timeframe of about 2 mins. Then going to a resting state.

Nah

The 180's is not going to kill you

The theory behind your maximum heart rate is 220 minus your age

When I was about 20 and did lots of cycling I always used to be up around 180/185 for about half an hour

180 though as people have said is anaerobic, this means your body burns carbs not fat, if there are no carbs your body will have to switch to fat which will mean you will have to slow down as fat is not an efficient fuel compared to carbs

I would take the others advice and go lower, that way you wont use your muscles for fuel !!

Thanks for the replys fellas. I'm 5'10",180lbs, somewhere in the neighborhood of 12-14% bodyfat. I just started a cycle that will consist os sust, eq, winny, and anavar. My goal is to be at 195-200lbs at around 10% bodyfat. I have noticed that even while bulking, if I run a couple miles on the treadmill first, i feel much better. It actually gives me more energy for lifting. My normal bpm is b/t 60-70. I just thought 180 was a bit high especially with the supplements i'm using currently. Again, thanks for the replies.
