Healthy Eating in NYC?

I'll be in New York on a school trip from Friday morning to Sunday night. Unfortunately we're traveling at night which might f*ck up my sleep schedule......but I'm not trying to get fat on this trip. I'd like to maintain my weight/muscle/fat%, and if I can't do that----then I'll improve! Lol i'm seriously not about to let my training and diet go off track.

I'm about positive there will be a pool, and probobly a weight room too.

Any ideas of what to request in my Chinese/Japenese/other kinds meals to make them the most healthy?

Any choices that are the best?

I'm sure I can use my own judgement, but any tips would be nice :-)

Anytime I'm in New York I always go overboard. (Either with the stores or the restaurants lol) There's somewhere to eat no matter what street you're on and usually you can get something "healthy" no matter what. If you're doing Chinese, just get chicken, fish, beef or pork with steamed veggies and ask for the brown sauce on the side. And to go light on the oil. Japanese there's a lot of veggies soups and cabbage dishes (not really my thing), and some of their beef is excellent. Theres a sushi that has no rice too. Not sure what it's called. But it's New York. If you see something good you like just eat it. One cheat meal won't hurt. Have a great trip! :)

asked for STEAMED veggies :)

tempora = lighted fried, avoid

sushi = amazing IMHO, avoid "rolls" get straight salmon, ect.. it may come ON rice but just eat the fish on top.. it won't be rolled up in rice and seaweed like a roll.

Sounds like a great trip... don't forget to enjoy it :D

Indeed, fri/sat/sun... remember hotels have gyms, nyc has gyms, central park etc... i woulnd't worry to much... stay active, go swim, have some vacation sex etc, try not to pound back the liquid cals at night, and definatly at those restaraunts get the steamed veggie or no-dressing salad option as opposed to rice, mashed patatoes, fries etc.... lean cuts of meat, filet, salmons etc.. and pull the "i'm to stuffed for dessert", just have tea/coffee.... come to think of it i hate those social situations too, saying "oh im on a diet" or whatever just seems cliche, and when you're already in "preceivable" good shape people who aren't in as good a shape just give u a dirty look. Some people will never understand others who want to better themselves, they will just look down at them because they themselves dont have the will power. Anyways enjoy nyc, i hope to get there sometime myself.

PS - just noticed your age, if you're gonna have some school trip sex be safe :)

besides eating out, nothing beats the old mantra: Be prepared. Pack your own stuff if you're not sure what is heading your way.

i used to live in new york, and belive me, if you want some good healthy food, new york is the place to get it. find any little hole in the wall japaneese place on the lower east side and get sushi and edamame. also indian and thai can be very good for you, and Murry Hill (sometimes knows as Curry Hill) is the place for that. there are some great french restaurants on the upper west side (near columbia university if you need a landmark) that are pretty cheap, and the french do some damn good fish as well.

AVOID CHINATOWN, THERE IS NOTHING GOOD THERE!!! everything is loaded with salt and fats. the only good thing about chinatown is knockoff luxury goods. and for gods sake, stay away from anything sold out of a cart. if you're on a school trip you will most likely be put in the following situation: "Ok kids, here's a big food court, go nuts." bad idea. i agree with pintoca, bring as much good stuff as you can. try and steal some extra fruits and stuff from breakfast for a snack.
