Funniest thing you've ever seen at the gym.

I know there are a couple of threads going about this, but I wanted to start one anyway.

Here's mine...

These two guys would come in to the gym I used to work out at, get on a random universal machine, do about 30 reps each, roll up their sleeves and dance in front of the mirror.

Well with the possible exception of myself doing alternate dumbell curls without increasing the weight for over a year.......

There is an older gentleman that comes into the gym from time to time and does alternate dumbell curl / overhead presses. It is pretty comical to watch he starts out with something resembling a curl but when it gets to his chest he shoots his hips forward and arches his back to get underneath it to finsh by pressing it over his head. He then essentially drops it and does it with the other arm. My description doesn't do it justice. It sort of looks like a seizure with weights.

The guy who wears cologne to they gym at 5:30 am is pretty funny too.

this happened last night at the gym.. actually it's kinda sad rather than funny...
big guy with belly loads up the hack squat with plates full on both sides (7 or 8 45's each side)... his version of a 'squat?' is jumping up & down ...feet coming off the platform ...with all this weight... and his belly was jumping up & down too... a hideoous sight. The whole free weight area stopped with mouths open. What a danger.

These anecdotes are not really funny, but most unusual and worth reporting.

1. Saw REAL TV last night where a powerlifter was going for 575 and got it, but missed racking the weight while the spotters were asleep. Dropped it on his chest. I actually gasped out loud watching it. I thought it would have killed him, but not even a broken rib.

2. Saw a guy doing lateral dumbell flyes with weights way too heavy for him. He was using body momentum to throw them up. He had no control whatsoever. On one rep the weights came down too fast and he clacked his nuts from both sides with 30 pounders. Yeeeooow!

3. One time I was trying to do a 1 rep max on leg extensions. I have the rack, plus two 25 pound plates on the front. As I am getting psyched, some joker pulls the pin to use in another machine. Now with only 50 pounds instead of 250, the plates come flying off with all the extra force and smash one of the giant wall mirrors. Of course I get all the stares. Never found out who did it.

4. Saw one dude doing cable lat pulls with around 200 when the cable broke (lawsuit heaven!). He pulled the bar so hard into his head he knocked himself out.

Back in Houston where I'm from I used to go to the World's Gym on Wundelich just down the street from Lee Labrada, actully I saw him at the gym a few times. (not that he's funny)

Anyway there was this dude that always wore biker shorts (aka hot pants) and I swear he had stuffed a couple of socks down his pants it was pathetic and so stoopid it was funny. Like that episode of "Jack Ass" LOL.

Years ago I was spotting a buddy of mine who insisted on going too heavy on the incline dumbell press. Also he only wanted me to spot from the elbows only. Anway he almost got to full lock out position when his right arm just collapsed w/ out warning. He almost knocked himself out! LOL!!! I know that was partly my fault, but he wouldn't listen. I couldn't stop laughing. Hell its still funny!:D

We have this really skinny cardio chick. After her marathon of cardio, she does "weights". She only does about 3 different exercises, the same ones every time, always with the same 10 lb dumbells.

One exercise she does is very original. She has the 2 dumbells and starts what looks like an upright row, but then turns into a quasi lateral raise. It's so funny because her skinny arms look like spider legs and they're flapping real fast like chicken wings. I can't tell exactly which muscles she's targeting.

I shouldn't make fun of her, but she's always giving me dirty looks.

Geez, do some of us have sick sense of humors or what? Most of the above are not really funny, but rather scary. The idiots who have no clue what they are doing will end up hurting themselves or someone else.

I have to admit though, the mental pictures of some of these are pretty damn funny if you remove the danger element.

shaolin: #2, 3 & 4 are pretty funny! #2 - the idiot deserved it...maybe he'll get a clue and use weight he can handle. #3 - must've been a sight! 45 lb plates flying into a wall mirror & you looking around like "WTF?!" #4 - really ain't funny, but picturing the guy laid out with a bar imprint on the head. Sucks for him.

I just get a kick outta these people (young & old) who do their little pre-shitty-workout routines. You know, spinning their arms around all crazy like and doing the overly fast swing twists from side-to-side. Then they grab too heavy of weight and do the seizure exercise Zen mentioned. Always some comic relief at the gym. :D
