I pretty much cut running out of my cardio routine a year ago. I am 23 right now, but I don't want to be looking back years later with bad knees. I like the eliptical, and a very brisk walk on an incline treadmill for about 30-45 mins.

Stepmill all the way. Not a stair climber, those annoy me, but a real StepMill. Also enjoy running.... (I'm crazy, I know) .... it DOES lean me out quickly when I do it on a regular basis. So while theoretically, it might not be the best form of fat-loss cardio, for ME it works like a charm.

I sometimes do the Precor Elliptical, but am finding it bothers my knees and hips when I do it regularly. Must be my body angles don't fit into the machine properly or something.....

Stepmill??????? That thing makes me dizzy...............I'd rather run the bleachers at the school........

stepmill looks like a torture machine to me, never ending stairs what a nightmare..LOL

My favorite is elliptical

people like the Elliptical cause its easy......but in the end running is the only real cardio other than cycling

That makes no sense. The eliptical is only as easy/hard as you input on the settings.

"Real" cardio is any cardio one does that gets him/her into the fat burning zone.

Running is NOT that zone brutha, it stinks! If you wish to be a skinny b-ball player, fine, but how many fitness buffs/bodybuilders do you see running?

Exactly.

my point wasn't so much about bodybuilders........

if you look at the people on these boards most of them carry decent amounts of weight (fat/muscle). their goals are all different but people doing cardio are generally looking to lose weight (fat/muscle) walking on a treadmill burns anywhere from 200-400 calories an hour. running any where from 600-1000.

I run 8 minute miles at a heartrate of about 130-140. I'm 21 years old so i'm working at about 65-70% of my max.

for weight loss running is best. why? cause you burn the most calories during and after. you also increase your body's ability to use fat as energy.

Running's out because of my knees, either 10 degree incline treadmill for 30 mins at 4mph or flat walking outside for up to 90 minutes. Not sure how good either is for fatburning but it doesnt affect my legworkouts which is the most important thing

Ummm, Oh.....

So, beat up your ankles/knees/lower back to burn up "calories" which is not indicative of fat loss? Run just to run huh??

I know many aren't bodybuilders, but burning lean muscle tissue "just because" is not something I really knew anyone, regardless of goals, would really want to do. Especially seeing as the more lean mass one held ON TO, the LESS one would have to RUN.

I guess you learn something new everyday. :)
