Last Monday I was doing compound sets of Incline Dumbbell presses and Incline flyes.
My training partner and I had a ton of dumbells on the floor all around the Incline bench because we work at different weights and we needed to switch quickly between the presses and flyes.
Anyway, I was pressing with 100 lb dumbbells and I brought them down very quickly to the floor after my last rep and SMASHED THE SHIT OUT OF MY FINGER between the dumbbell I was holding and one on the floor!
My finger went numb and black, and then it started gushing blood all over the place. I ran for some paper towels and other people were just staring at me with a look of horror on their faces! I couldn't stop the blood which was pooled on the floor and covering my whole hand, not to mention I couldn't move my finger. So I ended up going to the emergency room. I thought my finger was broken. Unbelievably, it turned out not to be broken, but I ended up with 8 stitches. it is now over a week later, and I just took the stitches out, but my finger is still purple, swolllen, and useless.
Funny when it happened, the first thing that ran through my mind was how this was going to affect my training!
Now, you can bet I am going to be VERY careful about where I put the dumbbells from now on! Hopefully, this doesn't happen to anyone else.
