DaveTSI's powerlifting log

nothing lol i just walked away

Well i didnt have a great day saturday. I got my weight back up to around 210, felt very strong. Opened with 475 on bench and smoked it. Went to 500 and got that too pretty easily. 525 next and i jumped the press call so no lift. Opened with 640 on deadlift. Setup perfect, started my pull and right above my knees i completely lose my balance forward and put it down. This meet was in a gym inside a really old industrial building, one of those big old brick mills. The floor was literally sagging under the weight lol. Everyone was having the same problem, it was just amplified on my attempts because of the weight. So i figured id try and setup better and be ready for it, and the 640 FLEW off the floor for me so i went 670. Same thing, got it to my knees and lose my balance. I NEVER lose my balance forward when im pulling. At this point im pretty fired up and everyone is pulling for me. Stayed at 670 to get the lift in, i really wanted to get 700 @ 198, i nearly got 710 3 weeks ago in the gym. Heres a video of my last one

everyone was flipping out, i was pumped cause i got it, threw my hands up in victory lol

The side judges gave me red lights! they said it wasnt fully locked out???? looks pretty good to me fuckers. so not only did i bomb out on deads and not get a total, but my back is destroyed right now cause i was fighting the weight as well as trying to keep my balance. oh well, next time... needless to say i am not going back to that venue ever again. im not one for excuses but when the fucking floor gives way to any kind of decent weight what the hell am i supposed to do?

Bummer man, but your concerns are valid.

An inadequate floor is very dangerous. Differential settling is bad news. Structural engineering requires a good footing and your skeleton is no different. I went to a weightlifting fund raiser when I was a kid and the guys were powerlifting up on a stage in a school cafeteria. You know the kind, elevated wooden platforms with wood skeleton. Anyway, the floor gave way on a 600-700 lb deadlift and this poor guy blew out both his knees. Hyperextended em both when the load fell. So I would say its a valid concern.

i cant view the video of your dead because of the web browser i use ....but did you not get a 'down' command in the deadlift??? if you got a down command, your shoulders should be locked for them to say it... if they didnt say the command then i could see how it could be an invalid attempt... or the fed may not use that command ...in that case i should stfu...
nice pull though, at the meets ive done, you'd be best lifter with 670@198....

Fuck bro that sucks, i would never compete under those circunstances again either and thinking you had to put up with all that weigh-in qualification methods...

yeah this was seriously in the back of my mind lol. if i knew they were going to red light me on my last attempt i would have just dropped it from lockout to see how many floors we could go through

yeah i was locked out, got the down command. the head judge gave me a white light he said it was a good lift after, he didnt know why the side judges gave me reds. thanks though.. ive gotten 705@207, i just really want 700+ at 198 its a goal of mine right now
