OK so this past Sunday i had a big meet and i did really well, though i missed out on a world record in the open 220 class in that particular federation. I set a 33lb comp pr in squat and 28lb comp pr in the bench, but my deadlift fell way short. I pulled 705 in the last meet i did, and i was stronger this time, it came off the floor alot faster than the last time i pulled it, but at my thighs my grip started to fail because i was tearing the calluses off my left hand. I took a second shot at it and got it even higher (big sign i had alot more in the tank if only my grip didnt fail me) but i just couldnt hang on. You can tell in the videos that im pretty pissed because a few other things went wrong in the way the meet was run leading up to these attempts too, but in the end I couldnt lock it out, no excuses. My hand was a bloody mess for two days, but its healing ok now lol.

Squats
Warming up i feel good, no back spasms or tightness, made sure i was extremely hydrated and had plenty of potassium flowing. Started with 225x3, 315x3, and went and put my suit on. Did 405x3, 495x2, and finally 575 for a single. Everyone helping said i was spot on and the 575 was stupid fast.

1st.639 Squat Video good squat 3 whites
2nd.677 Squat Video i got reds for depth, no good. I was right at parallel but they werent calling anything good unless it was deep. Lost my concentration a little too cause i clipped the rack on the walkout, made me stumble a little.
3rd.694 Squat Video I opted to go with something close to my 2nd attempt because i needed to get something better than 639 in. I played it a little too safe, but atleast i got a good lift in. This really wasnt too heavy, i had 720ish in me....next time :evil:

Benchpress
Again im feeling good, no pain at all thankfully. Usually after squats my back is pretty tight but i was good and loose. Warmed up with 135x5, 225x3, 275x3, 315x3 and then shirted up. Took 405 to a 3 board for 5, 455 to a 1 board for 1, then last 475 to a 2 board for 1. The 475 was very fast and felt perfect.

1st.496 Bench Video smoked, very light
2nd.518 Bench Video again felt light, but i got reds because i touched below my sternum, which is illegal, no "belly benching"
3rd.529 Bench Video OMG that felt sooo good, felt just like my opener. I could have gone 545-550ish, but like my squat 3rd attempt, i played it safe because my 2nd attempt was no good.

Deadlifts
Now this is were it gets ugly. A few things went wrong, but the main thing was the meet directors were going to give us a 15min break between flights. So we have about 20mins to go till our first attempts, i still have several warmups to hit, and then the director comes in and says there will be no break!!!!!! Warmed up with 225x3, 315x3, 405x3, 495x2, 545x1 605x1 So i hit my last three warmups in about 4-5 minutes and have to run to the lifter area. I got there just in time to hit my first attempt. I literally had 2 minutes to rest from the time i pulled 605 to the time i pulled my opener. You can visibly see how pissed I was after the 661 cause it obviously felt like shit.

1st.661 Dead Video felt like crap but it was good
2nd.705 Dead Video fuck you calluses
3rd.705 dead 2nd attempt Video fucking retarded reason to miss a lift, i cant even watch this i get sooo pissed. My grip has never been an issue but it is now obviously. By my next meet i will be doing static holds with 800+ mark my words.

Totaled 1884 at 216lbs, great lifting for the most part but damnit i wanted 1900+ and that WR. I cant complain with a pr in two out of three lifts and winning my weightclass against some great competitors.

I must say that it's hard to type with my jaw on the keyboard, but holy hell IMPRESSIVE!! 705 dead??? Elite is right. I only hope I can get strong enough to compete at that level in the future.

Bummer on the 705 pulls. Getting it off the floor was the battle and that looked easier than your previous meet. Its too bad a little thing like grip got in the way.

Can you wear gloves?

I have reached a point where I am losing grip on deads. Its funny how you can be ok and then you cross a line and then can't hold on and it gets in the way of your workouts. I have never used straps and don't want to start. Farmers walks just got added to my back workouts.

thanks buddy. yeah it did come off the floor pretty easily compared to last time, just wasnt my day i guess. No you cant wear gloves and they would hurt more than help i would think. Im going to get some different tools soon for working my grip so this wont be an issue again.
 
well ive been back in the gym for the last week and a half, got to try and get this updated. Ive throttled way down on the weight and intensity, my body really needs a break. Im switching over to more bodybuilding style workouts, i want to lose some fat and see how my body responds to the different training. Its been years since ive done isolation and high rep sets.
