Cut and Heal: my HST journal

lol at Sit Wumpsalot. Yeh, congrats BW.

Sounds like a great workout on Monday! How's the back feeling these days?

So by 'assistance', you don't mean using some of Musketeer's invisible goblins from China? ;) Your understanding and application of good training principles, plus juice should make for a very interesting journal.

It only hurts if I sleep on my stomach or slouch a lot. My deads were pretty heavy by rep 3 and it feels fine today.

Nah, customs always snags 'em. I get invisible tree elves from Canada - they're actually stronger than goblins but their irritating deepwoods Canadian accent can be distracting :).

Lol, I can just imagine us all reading about a week and a half of his journal while enhanced and rushing off to find suppliers.

Thanks on the congrats, peasants.

5 rep phase - workout 5 of 6

WEDNESDAY

Tough one. I thnink the deads on monday were a bad move.

Squats warmup to 355x5x2
-Stopped one set short, hoping to get all of 'em on Friday

Standing OHP warmup to 175x4, x4, x3 then fail

BB row warmup to 225x5x3

Pullups BWx7, x6
-I used straps today and found that I was more grip limited than back limited on these.

Bench warmup to 245x5x3

5 rep phase - workout 6 of 6

FRIDAY

Well I think fatigue has set in. It's time for a deload.

Squat warmup to 365x4, 365 x4
-These were the two most brutal sets ever. I'm normally super quiet when I lift but I damn near screamed on rep 4 of set 2 :). It sucks that I didn't get 'em all but I went to full depth and didn't break form in the least (I almost had to bail on the last one) so I can feel good about that. I've really focused on using the Valsalva technique and I think it's paying off big time as I haven't used a belt at all lately. My 5rm of 365 was set using a belt.

Standing OHP warmup to 175x4, x4, x3 then fail
-exact same as last workout

BB row 235x5x3
-undershot these

Pullups (strapped) BW x8, x7
-looks like I'm gonna have to strap up on some lifts and add supplemental grip work.

Bench warmup to 255x5x3, 285x1, 315x1
-since I'm gonna deload anyway I figured i'd see if I could throw three wheels up. Probably coulda done 2 or 3.

I'm happy with my progress but not thrilled. I think this was a good program to run and I have lost almost 3 inches off my gut while maintaining strength (possibly improving as I've tightened up my form in a couple areas as well as ditched the belt entirely ). And of course I'm kicking myself for monday's deads but I can't be sure if they cost me much.

Next up - DF 5x5 w/ cleans instead of rows, a little arm work, ab work, cardio (I hope :D) and two 5x5 bench sessions instead of 5x5, 1x5 to bump the workload. Natty for now.

BTW I was gone for a while b/c my comp at home crapped out and I'm too broke to buy a new one - I have to go to the library for the internet 'til I replace it. Don't expect to see me around as much - nothing personal :p

It looks like a pretty successful program. If you further throw in that you're feeling loaded then there could be some strength waiting in the wings as you deload. Then again, if you compare it with a run of the 5x5 maybe it's not so great.

Congrats on running the course.

I'm starting even more conservatively than my first 5x5 run to facilitate the deload, then I'll try to best or equal my PR's during week 3. That'll be telling I'm sure.

Has your weight changed much, or have you put on a bit of muscle to balance the fat loss?

Congrats on losing the 3 inches, and on finishing - it's been good to see someone doing something other than 5x5 on here :) Seeing someone's progress in a journal is much more interesting than reading a program description.
