I work my abs everyday i lift, which is 4 times a week. I was told by a trainer that u can work your abs everyday, is this true. I do switch up my routines from a heavy ab day to a lighter ab day. Should I only be doin abs 1-2 a week or can i continue to work them 4 times a week. Its kinda weird because after lifting I usually am sore wherever I worked, except my abs, there never sore. They are just tight for about 10-15 min after lifting thats it. Tell me what to do.

If you want your abs to be soar.. try doing some weighted decline crunches with extremely slow negatives... that just rapes my abs....
Abdominals are like any other muscle and they require time to recover. Since they are small, they can most likely recover quicker than a lareger muscle group, meaning you can train them slightly more frequently, however I wouldn't do them more than 3x per week...

I train my abs 4x per week...mainly because Cheese makes me...lol...

Sunday:
2 sets lower abs
2 sets mid/upper abs

Monday:
4 sets side abs

Wednesday:
2 sets lower abs
2 sets mid/upper abs

Thursday:
4 sets side abs

Most of the time I try to use weight and go intense. I do pull down abs, roman chair abs, side bends with heavy weights, full ROM sit ups with bands, spread eagle sit ups, leg raises, knee raises, hanging leg/knee raises, etc...etc...etc...

I am really starting to see abs too...

I'll prob stay with the with the 4 times a week routine unless someone else proves to me its wrong. I do lots of different excercises like weighted decline situps, leg raises pulley pull down thingys =-) an lots of other shit. So 4x a week is alright from what im seein so far.

The only thing that will prove you right is YOUR results...

Make sure that your results are providing what you want...if they do not then it is time to change.

I train abs Once per week. I treat them just like any other body part. I hit them just as hard as anything else. Also I don't go for record breaking speed crunches. IMO Ineffective. Slow negatives mentioned above and resistance training. I use weights to keep me under 15reps.

Some examples of this

Reverse knee-ups start at parallel and squeeze at the top for a few seconds.

Crunches, squeeze at the top for the count of what rep number your on. In Example: On your first rep count for a 1 second squeeze in the crunched position, at your tenth rep, count for a 10 second squeeze in the crunch position. At your 15 rep, count for a 15 sec squeeze in the crunched position. And when i say squeeze, push your abs as hard as you can. Your abs should be tender the next day.

Scaggs, Your pause crunch idea sounds pretty interesting.... I think im gunna have to give it a whirl...

I still don't like the idea of crunches at all...lol

2 times a week for maintenance

3 times a week for serious progress

Most people don't need more, focus on weighted crunch machine for low reps high weights and slightly higher reps paused crunches using free bodyweight.
