they prob also said theyd hook you up w/some test & dbol... some of those Golds girls are freaks. Id stick w/ machines or low weights. Pilates is llike yoga- more for improving flexibilty than strength.

I know the women there that many people would describe as "freaks" very well. Many of them I've known for years. I've known them through the deaths of friends, small triumphs, and many other experiences.

There isn't a one of them that I would call a freak. There are some very remarkable women amongst them... and they were my wife's dear dear friends.

George, BTW remember that dancers will be obsessive about not getting any "bulk" at all - as ballet aesthetics require dancers to be extremely thin. My guess is this is why they don't want any lower body workouts.

A friend of mine did ballet for 15 years and she can squat about 300lbs BTW! Without squatting training!

OR

SG, most dancers do this. I'd be surprised if some of them don't. It's not just for flexibility. I did it post partum to rebuild core strength and to narrow my hips back up. Beginners usually stick to a piece of equipment called the reformer...it is very basic and build core/static hold type strength.

If you keep advancing, as I did, you end up being able to bend over and put your hands on something knee height, and without even jomping at all, raise your legs up, out, and over your head into a headstand.

There are many levels.

One area od Pilates HAS tried to make a connection between Pilates moves and resistance training already:

i remember something about female teenage ice skaters working a lot of olympic lifts into their routines, all using light weights, done from the hanging postiton etc.....just to focus in on their explosivness because they were jumping about a lot and stuff

being pig ignorant about dancing i dunno what they would want, but i would have thought something like this is something you could gradually work up to....i saw an article on it on a website
(the program they followed), i'll have a search around for the link

plyometrics seem cool as well.....and focusing on different types of flexibilty, dynamic stretches, static stretches etc...
