i have always had ceral for breakfast growing up. ive tried oatmeal several times, and i hate it. even the flavored ones. so i usually end up eating ceral for breakfast with 2% milk. its usually either cherrios or mini-wheats. how much am i hurting my gains by not eating a better source of carbs?

cereal is a very general term

what type of cereal are you eating?
crap stuff like sugar puffs or semi decent stuff like fiber 1?

Iwgy you hate oatmeal well no one said eating clean is about eating the stuff you love to eat like cereal with 2% milk, sorry you're gonna have to make some sacrifices. As for oatmeal, i prefer it to regular cereal although at one point i wasnt a big fan, u just get used to it and actually start enjoying thse foods after a while

those cereals you listed are moderate GI (unless mini-wheats are the ones that are frosted on one side, in which case its most likely high, not sure). if you're on a cutting diet, then lose the cereal, if not, chow down w/ skim milk

I'm assuming you're on a bulking diet; in that case, I would allow for the cereal is you absolutely cannot stand the taste of other carbs. Otherwise, you can replace the cereal w/ a Yam or sweet potato in the morning.

Well, you are not really hurting gains by not eating a better source of carbs, because carbs don't build muscle PROTEIN does.
So, you are hurting gains by choosing to eat the wrong macronutrient.

You're not going to see any results if you're eating cereal and milk. Leave that for the kids and the Sat. morning cartoons, grab some egg whites, oats, steak, etc......

eat whatever u want for breakfast, it doesnt have to be what everyone around you has been brainwashed into eating.
some cultures will have propper dinner type meals in the morning too

Great posts!

Steak for breakfast is one of my favorites.

I love how it tastes, but I love even more how it makes me look!

IMO I would lose the milk altogether. I'm sure others could tell you the scientific reasons. As for me I know that my body does not do well with milk. A lot of people drink it but it really is not good for our bodies. That said I do occasionally have a bowl of fiber cereal but end up tossing the skim milk that I use down the drain when I'm finished with the cereal. You said you don't like oatmeal. Have you tried putting it into the blender with your shake (assuming you drink protein shakes)? It tastes great and oatmeal is a reasonably decent source of carbs and fiber.
