Body: Do you do the anabolic diet? I'm reading about NHE and the Anabolic Solution for BB/updated version of AD and I want to give one of these a shot for at least a while.
Here's what the NHE author says about milk -- I love milk, btw. I really can't imagine never having it.
QUESTION: Is milk allowed on the NHE Eating Plan?
ROB'S ANSWER:
No. Milk falls within the ambit of NHE's prohibition of "calorie-containing fluids. . . except for low/moderate red wine consumption and protein shakes," see p. 128. In addition to being outright prohibited by NHE, milk is disfavored because its carb content is wholly comprised of sugary, i.e., lactose (as opposed to starchy) carbs. And unlike fruit, which although it contains sugary carbs also contains fiber and a wealth of micronutrients and phytochemicals (therefore moderate fruit consumption is encouraged), milk possesses no such virtues. Also, (unlike milk-derivative products like cheese and cottage cheese, which are much lower in carbohydrate) the "uncultured" lactose in milk causes digestive difficulty in the 70% of the population that is lactose intolerant. Perhaps we should take a hint from the fact that in the majority of human beings, production of lactase, the enzyme needed to digest milk, declines sharply after childhood. If humans weren't made to consume human milk after weaning, I daresay adult consumption of cow's milk wasn't part of the grand design either. No milk mustache here; for all of the foregoing reasons, milk is a drink worthy of contempt.
