gallon of milk a day

During my last CKD bulking phase I used to drink a gallon milking on carb up days. Lactose is actually a decent carb, as far as carbs go, for building muscle mass. As long as you don't mind the bloating. In the old days, most pro's bulking like that. Tons of milk.

How did you bulk on a CKD?? Sounds like an oxymoron.

Effective?

You bulk on CKD by consuming more calories than you burn.

When I stopped gaining at 157 lbs (I am absolutely horrible at gaining muscle - my body if fucking resisting every single ounce of LBM) - and I stopped completely, nothing I did even began to bulge my weight - CKD helped me go up to 163 with no gain in bodyfat.

A gallon of milk per day was MANDATORY when I was playing HS football...We always had competitions on who could jug the most before we had to heave...It wasn't a pleasent sight

A lot of sugar (176g)

milk has a great source of protein in it because it lasts a long time in your system

lactose is good because it is insulogenic (sp) which forces nutrients into the muscles

i think milk is great for bulking

Bro, I'm not even going to type another 3 page explination of this. There are SEVERAL long arguement threads on low carb bulking tucked away in the diet forum. I'm amazed at how many people on this board who have been in the game for years have never heard of bulking on a CKD/anabolic diet, or a low carb diet. WOW. Read anything written by Dr. Mario DePasquale. Also read up on what Bill Kazmier and Dave Pulombo eat for gaining muscle mass. There are alot of huge freaks who basically do high cal CKD's for bulking.

Tiger88, yep alot of the old school guys drank milk for gaining. Lactose is a low GI carb by the way. MUCH lower than brown rice and whole wheat (which aren't even low GI btw... they are moderate GI). Dairy products have been shown to consitantly increase insulin sensitivity in both men and woman by biologist and nutritionist. The main reason you would cut diary products out of your diet for cutting, is the water retention is causes. They can actually speed up fat loss due to the insulin sensitivity increase and high calcuim concentration... both of which also happen to be very beneficial for gaining muscle mass.

sawastea, yes alot of sugar, but you need to learn to think in terms of GI and II. It is a very slow absorbing sugar, and actually is lower GI than most "complex" carbs. The Sugar vs. complex carb perspective is very old, outdated, and we realize today... quite useless.

Body: Do you do the anabolic diet? I'm reading about NHE and the Anabolic Solution for BB/updated version of AD and I want to give one of these a shot for at least a while.

Here's what the NHE author says about milk -- I love milk, btw. I really can't imagine never having it.

QUESTION: Is milk allowed on the NHE Eating Plan?

ROB'S ANSWER:

No. Milk falls within the ambit of NHE's prohibition of "calorie-containing fluids. . . except for low/moderate red wine consumption and protein shakes," see p. 128. In addition to being outright prohibited by NHE, milk is disfavored because its carb content is wholly comprised of sugary, i.e., lactose (as opposed to starchy) carbs. And unlike fruit, which although it contains sugary carbs also contains fiber and a wealth of micronutrients and phytochemicals (therefore moderate fruit consumption is encouraged), milk possesses no such virtues. Also, (unlike milk-derivative products like cheese and cottage cheese, which are much lower in carbohydrate) the "uncultured" lactose in milk causes digestive difficulty in the 70% of the population that is lactose intolerant. Perhaps we should take a hint from the fact that in the majority of human beings, production of lactase, the enzyme needed to digest milk, declines sharply after childhood. If humans weren't made to consume human milk after weaning, I daresay adult consumption of cow's milk wasn't part of the grand design either. No milk mustache here; for all of the foregoing reasons, milk is a drink worthy of contempt.

AAO, I do a diet almost identical to the anabolic diet. Actually, I guess it falls into the ranges set in that diet, so I would have to say yes. True, milk is not part of our diet from a evolutionary perspective, but neither are grains (rice, wheat, corn etc), yet some of these jackasses say to eat brown rice or oatmeal. Funny. If you cannot diget lactose, do not eat it. Most caucasians (including myself) tolerate lactose well. Of course I would avoid it on your low carb days if you do the anabolic diet, but I see no problem with using it on the carb up if you aren't lactose intolerate. Just make certain to get your veggies as well.
