This is a trick that I use for the situation you're in. If you aren't really "getting ready" for a show or anything, then time isn't really a factor. Try cutting for three weeks. At the end of that period assess your progress. If you feel you need to cut more, take a two week maintenance phase. Cycle three weeks cutting, and two weeks maint., and I think you will find that you are able to retain a lot more muscle mass. This is assuming that you are training naturally. Now get after it!
