When I first started lifting I knew exactly how many reps of each weight I could lift and if I ever couldnt get it I would get pissed as hell. Granted I was in high school, but when I lifted 275 for six instead of 3 after loading with creatine for the first time I practically busted a nut. I didnt know anything about tempo, recovery time, diet or anything else that affected my max.
Now I could care less. In Dec of 2000 I benched 315 for 15. Now I can get it only 8. I was on Fina and Dbol then so I dont expect to be that strong anymore. I remember being afraid to take steroids becasue I would go insane if my strength went down like that. But now I know better and evaluate my progress based on intense training and not numbers. Same thing goes for weight. I havent got on a scale in six months. I dont care how much I weigh. Its just a fucking numer.
I always see guys get pissed when they miss a lift or lose two pounds. Then they say their goal is to bench 400 or to weigh 215. If your goal is to train with intensity and eat 300g of protein a day the other shit just comes along with it.
How much ephasis does everyone put on numbers? I'm thinking about doing it more so that I can give myself some quantitative goals.
What do you think?
