Hey Girls,

My goal this year is to put on 10lbs of muscle (inspired by Ms. 24K).... I work my ass off in the gym like everyone else here on this board, and would like to compete in a bb contest maybe this coming summer. I did a fitness contest...but didn't really like it...

Anyway, I have decided to up my calories from a high of 1800 to a high of 2500 and approx 30 carbs... so I am looking at 40% protein 30% carbs 30% fat

My first question for you girls is, do you think this is too much??? There is an amazing monster ( she is huge!) at the golds gym that I go to and told me that I have to decide either eat the cals and pack the muscle on or lean out..no in between( she told me this b/c she said she could tell I was afraid)

My second question is I attempted to eat the clean 2500 calories..whoa its a lot!! It was hard to eat it all! So a friend suggested that I should set my alram clock twice in the night and eat a chicken breast every 3 hours to keep the metabolism going..what do you girls think? If you don't think this is a good idea, how else can I get all the food in without feeling sick at each meal?

Just to let you know, I am 5 ft and approx 113-115 lbs..bf haven't checked or a bit however last time it was 13-14% ( I have been leaning out for a bit..so I am thinking its more towards 13 or so)

thanks for the opinions in advance

Happy lifting! :qt:

Hey girl... Glad I've inspired you :) And glad to see another girl on here trying to put some weight on, and not just take it off lol

Calories are fine at 2500 I'm at that now, and we're close to the same size, I'm also 5ft, and just got on the scale last night for the 1st time in 2 and a 1/2 weeks and I'm 113lbs, my bodyfat is alittle higher than yours though.

But as for the breakdown, I would up the carbs , and lower the fats. Fats are great for when your cutting, but 30% isn't needed for building, I'm not saying cut them out completely.

Also I don't think waking up in the middle of the night and eating a chicken breast is a good idea. When you are building you need to get some good quality sleep, when your body is at rest is when the muscle is going to grow.

I would suggest having either a casinate shake, or cottage cheese with some peanut butter minutes before going to sleep.

Hope this helps :)

Good advice Missy! I agree - getting up 2x / night will just upset your quality of sleep and your abilty to recover & just not be miserable. Eat clean and train to use up that fuel are you are looking at some size.

And you're right -- bulking can be a bit daunting when we all spend most of our time trying to lean out. But you can't do both at the same time. You can eat to build muscle and just keep it clean to avoid putting on more fat than is necessary, but some fat is good while you are tryign to do this. Keep in mind that you are trying to make a specific alteration to your body. Too many conflicting activities leave it confused as to how it is supposed to respond and then it will most likely just panic and hold onto everything it has and also not run efficiently - so you are screwed for any of your goals.

Congrats on the new focus & enjoy the cals without guilt!

you can try an appetite stimulant as the coenzyme of vitamin b12 (known as dibencozide)

As a last resort to try to get your calories in, you could do a MEGA protein shake. Protein powder, oatmeal, flax oil, Natural PB, eggs. Lots of protein, low GI carbs and good fats - with LOTS of calories.

....try to EAT your nutrients....but as a last resort, drink them.....
