Chicken Noodle soup?

Snitz

New member
Okay, it LOOKS like the only downside to Progresso's chicken noodle soup is the high sodium, but in terms of bodybuilding, how does chicken noodle soup feel for everyone? It's tasty, hot, has veggies, chicken and some carbs.

Chicken Noodle Soup for bodybuilding? Is this post a joke?

Nope, it's not a joke.

I didn't say "for bodybuilding"; I ENJOY it, so I was wondering how it would fit into a bodybuilding diet(ie stay away from it, ok once in a while, whatever).

Well, I personally think it's ok here & there but try & get the lower sodium soups.....nothing wrong with soup in a healthy regime.....

What I like to do is add extra cooked chicken & vegetables to my soup.....

High in sodium is a understatement, sodium seems like its the main ingredient .....

There is a brand now with 75% less sodium......look for that....Campbell's I think!

i make my own about once every 2 weeks. it's absoultely great and i see nothing bad about it.

4 boneless and skinless chkn breasts
sodium free chicken bouillon packets
carrots
celery
1 onion
4 garlic cloves
1 tspn of cumin
some garlic powder
1 tspn of paprika

and for the pasta i use barilla multigrain.....

bring the water to a boil with the chicken breasts already in there....scoop out the fat and add ingredients...cook on low for about 2 hours

I would stay away from it, the sodium levels are through the roof. One can yields about 2,328.25 MG of sodium!!! You might as well just eat a cup of salt.

I generally hate all soups. I've recently survived (so far) a major flu so I've eaten chicken noodle soup with saltines 2 days in a row, and have managed to have kept it down.
Really, unless you have a BB contest coming up, high BP, or some other SPECIFIC reason to avoid sodium, don't sweat the salt.

I like homemade soups as well. I make my own chicken noodle/chicken brown rice soups as well. I take a whole, un cooked chicken and skin it. Then I cut off most of the meat. Then I throw the meat and the bones in some water with pepper, carrots, celery, a little sodium free salt, an onion and a few garlic cloves. I boil everything for two hours. Take out the bones, skim the fat, and some brown rice and cook for another 30 minutes. Delicious.
