Anticatabolic Supps?

are anticatabolic supplements good for guys like me not even on gear? i'm just using whey and creatine syrum. i'm not trying to bulk, but i'm not trying to really cut either (i'm no bodybuilder). i just want to maintain my current bodyweight and if anything gain 5 or 10 lbs tops (im 5'10" 170lbs). will some anticatabolic supps such as BCAA's help me keep all my muscle (and aid in burnin a lil flab) and get even more lean? any other anticat supps out there? any advice would be nice!

Creatine "syrum" is crap. Monohydrate is not stable in water. Most of the people I talk to say it did not work for them. Unless you have awsome genetics, putting on 5-10 pounds won't be walk in the park. You will have to eat, then train, then eat, then eat some more. The only anticatabolic I would get is Phosphatidlyserine. I would also recommend glutamine.

I work in a hardcore supp store and I have a Doc degree in PT. Email me if you have any questions and I'll help.

You should easily be able to put on 5 or 10 pounds of muscle without supplements with proper exercise and diet unless you are an elderly eunuch with pituitary dwarfism.

If you go the supplement route, most people seem to respond well to high quality creatine monohydrate.

thanks for the help but you guys are kinda missing the point. i don't give a rats ass about gaining weight at all, or even discussing creatine. i'm wondering about whether anticatabolic supplements are worth looking into. what is Phosphatidlyserine and where could i buy it? any info on ANTICATABOLICS would be great!

Keeping protein at 1.5 grams per pound of body weight will definitely blunt catabolism. Also, Glutamine at 15-20+ grams through out the day helps a lot. Flax oil is a nice additive as well.

Phosphatidylserine is cool, but I like to use it more for the brain than the body. PS is found most concentrated in the brain. Also I read you had to take like 800mg of the stuff to cut the cortisol down.....I could be wrong but I do know that stuff is very costly at GNC (whats not) like 30 pills at 100mg for 30 bucks. thats not even four days. Try glutamine, HMB, increase protein, sure, try the bcaa, buy whey all ready has a lot of Bacc, and sorry to say this, but drop the liquid stuff and take power creatine. Hell, take an effervescent creatine. If you don't have a good creatine, you can forget the anti- bit.

Your goals are so meager that you shouldn't need much in the way of supplements. Concentrate on proper diet and exercise.

If you don't give a rat's ass about creatine, why did you mention creatine? Why do you assume creatine isn't anticatabolic? Why are you assuming glutamine isn't anti-catabolic? Both are used in the medical community to slow lean tissue wasting due to burns, disease, and immobility. If preventing the breakdown of lean tissue isn't the essence of anticatabolic, then what do you mean by anticatabolic? You are taking a low quality creatine product, hence you do not get the anticatabolic effect. If you can provide a more concise post reguarding your goals, board members can help you. If you want to burn a 'lil flab' while keeping all your muscle then the ECA or NYC stacks are anecdotally considered effective and research evidenced to burn fat 100% faster than diet alone while sparing muscle.

what is Phosphatidlyserine
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is a phospholipid that is responsible for maintaining membrane fluidity in animal cells. It has been shown in some research to blunt cortisol release after exercise. I don't know if it's effect on muscle or fat tissue has been researched, but I do know that it is expensive even at discount prices.

I know the topic of whether or not HMB is effective or not has gone back and forth for years now, but I have a study from the Journal of Exercise Physiologyonline showing that the only type of population that would benefit from HMB consumption is a reduced caloric intake group. So unless you're dieting and have reduced calories a lot, there's no point in taking HMB, you're just wasting your money. Put your money to good use with food, protein powder, flax, and glutamine.
