Wine?

My GF and I are on our Aruba Workout/Diets (she is 5-10 125 so she doesnt really need a diet) but she joined a gym.

I am 6 foot 170 but no muscle really so I am getting inshape also for our vacation in may.

The problem is we have a "go out and eat and drink" life style but we realize for now we have to pull back on the restaurants and start making eachother dinner a lot more.

Food isnt the problem - the wine is. We seem to drink wine 2-4 nights a week...sometimes just a glass or 2...sometimes 2 bottles.

Is wine really that bad for you in terms of alchohol? I have heard its better than beer of course - but if I am looking to gain some muscle and diet is 1 bottle every saturday going to kill that? (dallas game this weekend - I am going to want to be drunk for that after the beating they take)

I did a search but I keep getting a GOOGLE error? I also went 10 pages deep and searched but saw nothing.

Thanks guys

I think its all a matter of moderation. I was drinking 10 light beers a night(90 X 10=900 cals) now I'm drinking 12 oz wine(about 360 cals). That alone subtracts 540 cals a day from my diet, not including a little less damage, of course you, and me, will probably get flamed by a few of the extremist on this board that demand that you must abstain from all alcohol, but I believe it is one of the joys in this life as long as it isn't taken to the extreme.

Dude i get pretty bent on the weekends.....i have beefed up in terms of muscle, but i am also blessed with the college boy beer gut and bloated face come monday. I dont think its the alcohol that messes you up, its the diet and lack of sleep. I know when im wasted im not trying to have a protein shake and some EFAs....im going for the 12 inch meatball sub at WAWA, and a huge mountain dew...then passing out shortly afterwards. Another thing i noticed after drinking was strength loss.....after a weekend of boozing, mondays just arent worth going to the gym...especially if you drank the night before. It all depends on what you want man......if you are serious about gaining some clean mass, and making fast gains in the gym, then i would leave the bottle alone.....if you dont mind the bloat or the gut, then by all means booze away.

well.....red wine is full of antioxidants...or so i hear. I do a good amount of drinking all summer long and dont put on a pound. I like to make sure that before i go to bed i consume alot of water so i feel ok to workout the next day. It wont be a heavy or great workout but ill still get to the gym and workup a bit of a sweat. Imo drinking wont do much either good or bad unless ur drinkin all day every day or heavily every night.

im pretty 'extreme' when it comes to diet..but i am a firm believer that alcohol will not really mess any diet up. Of course, like someone said, if you go out and get trashed it will effect your body in more ways (lack of sleep, lack of will power to get your meals in, and poorer workouts.)

I'd say cut back but don't exclude if you enjoy it that much..its life ya gotta live it at least part of the way you want to

thanks guys I appreciate it...

I am more or less just trying to get in better shape - So I imagine red wine wont be a huge issue 1 night a week. I dont really need to loose any weight - so the calories might be a good thing. I never get hungover on wine so that is also a good thing.

Thanks guys!

wine is not going to make or break your diet....it's the hangover that kills ya.
