Why does every man exaggerate their income on the web and in real life?

I make about $35K a year plus another 2 grand in matching 401K funds. I live in WV. The last stats I saw showed me in the top 50% of income for a family of 4 here in WV. However, I'm paying for a family of one. I live solo. I know that sounds like I'm getting paid shit pay for those in more inflated parts of the country. I live in an apartment that would probably cost me over $2000 a month in NYC. I'm paying $465. I've considered transferring to our Seattle office but I've been warned that I would need a huge raise to live the same lifestyle.

I've never heard anyone else on this board admit to making anything less than 6 figures. Statistically, 6 figures is quite well off in most places. Am I the only one that makes less than $100K? I doubt it, but I'm the only one that will tell the truth. Just like I'm the only one that will admit to being hung like a gorilla.

The reason why "everyone says they make 6 figures" is those people are the ones who are proud of their income, and rightly so, so they post about it. Not that everyone who makes that much does post it, but I'm sure a lot of people who do make it, have posted it in some kind of fashion. Why not.

but in all honestly mine is jusy shy of 7 (hard). very normal, slightly above average size. nothing to brag about, but plenty to have confidence.
 
I guess some guys seem so open about it like they are flaunting it. My pay may seem low, but you have to factor the cost of living in WV. We have the lowest housing costs in the nation. My utilities aren't bad. My $100 cable bill is my highest utility. I could get rid of that if I wanted to.
I guess the only thing that I would desire more money for would be to travel more often. That's the one thing I'm missing that I can't afford. I'd like to see a bit of the rest of the world.

When I was in law school I was hanging out at the local law nerd dive bar and some attorney comes in and brags about he was making six figures when he lived in NYC and how making 60k in Toledo sux. Needless to say, the moron didn't factor in cost of living. Sixty thousand in Toledo is like making 120k in NYC.

Funny, you hear women talk about how they make crap money all the time. Why? Because men don't value women for money. They value then for their beauty. I have never lied about that due to the fact that it means nothing,,. People dont like you due to what you make.They enjoy your company based on who you are. However I did just get a promotion and raise.....

Guys think that if they make more money they will get laid more. The media has told us this over and over again. I mean, Donald Trump is bald and old but he bangs supermodels. I find my single friends are way more likely to exaggerate this.

It's also an insecurity issue. Guys who never made any money before and then get into a job where they think 60k is a huge number will tell everyone about it. It's the "my cock is bigger than yours" syndrome.

My plan (if I sell enough stuff) has me at 67k plus 3 in RSP matching. I'll probably do closer to 55k. I also have a second job to pay for travel and fun stuff whch will hopefully pull in another 10 this year.

One of the things that I distinctly remember the O&G Fraud attorney said of him after extensive interviews (that could put us both in harm's way for selling out all of the thieving POS that have been ripping off millions for many MANY years. For those of you who think that you would judge someone based purely on their likability and not be impressed by someone's success... you guys are sorta fibbing, that is, not unless YOU have traveled in those circles on a regular basis. I mean, what is there to be impressed about insofar as wealth when YOU have achieved the same? After you have achieved a certain level of success, the bar will be raised. It will be then alone that others will no longer be able to impress you with *stuff* but by WHO THEY ARE ALONE.

I have never lied. My friends know I do well, but they have never flat out ask how much we make though. If they did I wouldn't lie though. Although now that we are new business owners we aren't as well off as we once were. Hopefully that will change with hard work :)

That's a ratty pair of jeans to me!" etc etc. It was one of the lamest dates I've ever been on, and I kind of knew a little bit that he was like this but he'd asked me out five times so I had this "Oh whatever, how bad could dinner be?" kind of attitude. Apparently dinner could be and was really bad. Bleh. No thank you.

I went out with a wiminz, single mom, that worked in my industry as an AA so she had a rough idea how much I made. Anywho, we're chatting on the phone and she asks me why I live in an apartment and "where does all that money go." I replied,"Drugs and hookers." BTW, her previous boyfriend gave her a car...lolllll

We didn't date for long.....

I had an ex that would come stay with me every 6 months or so. I found out later that the cars she would drive to see me were being paid for, or owned by whatever guy she was seeing.

Over the years she has lived with a few guys, been married, and had a kid. But, she is still waiting for me to grow up so we can get married.lol

When I was young and starting out, all I wanted to do was make some good jack. Last year, I made more money than I ever thought about and I am like - now what.

It is not really that much fun to buy those toys when you can actually afford them. I think even worse, I don't even want those toys now because I don't want to look be grouped with all the other rich pricks flaunting their goods.

Plus - rich kids suck. I generally can't stand them. How do you become fiancially succesful and keep your kids from being like that??
