When to take protein...

When is the correct time to take whey protein? I am not a serious lifter, and I can't afford to drink too much whey protein. Should I only drink it on workout days, or daily? And if only on workout days, before or after? I need to make every scoop of this whey protein count! (Well, I know it all helps, but I want to use it real efficiently/frugally, cause I'm poor...)

I appreciate the help fellas, thanks! Have a great day!

You should always have protein after your workouts to feed your muscles., along with carbs from veggies or sweet potatoes/brown rice. Check out your everday amounts of protein that you are already consuming through the foods you eat. Then determine how much more protein you should be consuming and have that in your shake.
Good protein sources are egg whites, chicken, ground turkey, almonds, soy nuts, l.f. cottage cheese,flank steak,
soy milk, all natural almond butter/peanut butter,
fish{tuna ,tilapia,sole,salmon}
Protein should be 1-1.5 gram per lb of bodyweight. ;)

This makes it seem like I should lift before dinner if I need to eat carbs after workout and take a protein shake.

My friend, you are in luck today. The cheapest place I have found to buy any supplement on the net ships out of 2 cities in the U.S., and you happen to live in one of them. I don't know if they allow pick ups, but you can contact them and ask, as this could save you on the shipping)which is already super cheap). Because they base out of Idaho, there is no sales tax.

good luck!!

i take my proteins directly after workouts and as meal replace ments but if u can affort to drink to much whey protein i think just drink it on your workout days like u do

i normally have 2 protein shakes per day on both training and non training days...

training day: first one is after my workout which is normally sometime in the mid morning/early afternoon, and the second is before bed...

off day: first on at breakfast, second before bed...

That might be good for people on the West Coast, but it takes about a week for things to ship here in NYC.

I order stuff from dpsnutrition.com netrition.com's my 2nd option if dpsnutrition is out of supply of anything

I'd recommend ordering from local websites, unless you can wait..

shoot for 1 -1.5 g protein per lb daily. shoot for at least protein shake after workout.
