weight training v. cardio

If you just have 1-2 glasses of wine, it's probably not an issue. If you are getting totally plastered, it probably is. I would say keep your weekend drinking to moderate levels. Once you get into the grove of training (6-8 months) and want to see how alcohol affects you, keep training logs. Compare your results for several months of abstinence to your progress over several months of drinking.

how much do you think alcohol consumption affects the results that I am seeking. I drink on the weekends

It will have an effect if you're consuming alot of it. It's basically the purest form of sugar, so not a good way to lose weight/fat.

You need to be patient and keep working at it. Giving up should not even enter your mind. Being fit/improving your body is more about changing your lifestyle than just going to the gym and working out.

You say you've been weight/strength training since Jan 15. Your muscles don't even know that they have been lifting yet. You should take a long term outlook if you're serious about changing your body and set short-medium term goals along the way to mark your progress.

If you're looking for a quick fix, you've taken up the wrong sport.......i know that's not the case.

Drinking in moderation will not be a problem. Alcohol can actually increase metabolism[sup]1[/sup] and research suggests that the calories in alcohol are not used efficently or may not be burned the same way as other calories[sup]2[/sup].

When it comes to drinking, "moderation" is open to individual interpretation. :D

A lot can depend on what you're drinking. If you like the fancy drinks, remember each extra ingredient, things such as soft drinks, fruit juices, tonic water, etc., can add more to the calorie/sugar content.

For many people alcohol stimulates the appetite, or at least can relax your resolve about what and how much to eat or drink.

We all have our chosen pleasures. Some we might could eliminate, and some we just have to work around. I'd just as soon drop dead as completely abandon my chocolate chip cookies. I'm a lot happier having them in limited quantities and accepting the trade offs.

Moderation in this context is not meant to be open to individual interpretation. Moderation for purposes of my statements is two drinks a day. A drink being one of the following:

12oz beer
5oz glass of wine
one shot of hard liquor

Drinking a mixxed drink should be ok, though it depends on how much alcohol is put into it if it is to be considered moderate.

The calories of the juices should be considered, you make a good point. I wouldn't worry about the sugar content though, like the studies I referenced to before seem to agree on, alcohol increases the metabolism by causing the body to burn more glucose when it is effect. Sort of a temporary metabolic boost. I wouldn't use this to drink whatever though- only in moderation. Moderation being a drink or two. Two maximum.

what do you guys think of clen for a female who works out and eats pretty clean about 5x a week and just cannot lose the stubborn fat? If she gets on it and cycles on/off two weeks, how many cycles does she have to do and on the off cycle time will the metabolism shoot down again?

also-she has been lifting and doing cardio and eating clean for one month-no weight loss at all. she is at 130lbs 5'2 and 24 bf

Unfortunately I hate most forms of cardio, so I don't get it in regularly at the gym. If your main goal is to lower bodyfat, diet (including drinking a lot of water) is key, followed by lifting.

Keep carbs and fats down, protein high, and eat frequently. No time to eat? That's not acceptable! :) Breakfast is my weak spot, so I usually use a protein shake for my first meal. I keep stuff I can just grab and toss into a ziploc baggie or disposable plastic containers since my life is usually on the go. Tuna even comes in dry pouches now...you can rip the top off and eat it with a plastic fork and throw it all out (I keep these at work as a snack meal). I grill up burgers and chicken breasts (4-6 lbs of each in one night) then keep it all in the fridge so it's ready to go. As I'm walkin out the door, I grab a chicken breast and eat it while I'm driving. The supermarket has precut salad mixes so I buy those and I'll grab a few hand fulls, put it in a plastic container, add in a crumbled burger, and my lunch is done.

I think moderate drinking on the weekends hasn't helped me, but it hasn't ruined me either. I usually just keep it to one night (that is my "cheat" night and I eat more carbs that night at dinner than usual too) and I drink either 2 or 3 martini's or mind erasers (vodka, kaluah and club soda). Adding in juices or regular soda's as mixers will just add sugar without the buzz so why bother? LOL My cheat night is just after my Fri. night work out and I make sure I get into the gym on Sat. as well.

I usually lift 5 days a week. I've brought my bf down from about 25% to 18% in about 7 months by eating clean and just lifting. My weight has remained about the same but I went from a size 12/14 to a 6/7 in pants.

I've tried clen and I'm using it for my third time right now. The first time it had no effect on me. The second time (a few weeks ago) it seemed to help slightly. I'm giving it one more shot now and increasing cardio since I hurt myself and can't lift like I normally do. I think it's a very individual thing though. My husband did a 2 week cycle of it and lost a good amount of fat even though he hurt his back and spent 90% of that time laying in bed. LOL Sometimes I hate him! :)

adpro...get away from the scale as a judge of how she's doing...the scale hasn't moved for me in months but my clothes keep getting bigger! I think it took me about 3 monts to really notice any major changes, but 3 months is a short period of time when you really think about it, so she should keep going. I'm 5'3 and around 145. I wouldn't have her start clen at this point, her body is still getting accustomed to the new diet and lifting...wait for a few months to see how she's doing on her own.
