upper body and pain in base of skull

Recently, after finishing an intense set of chins or dips, I feel this pain in my neck or base of the skull and the remainder of my workout kinda sucks. I also feel lightheaded, but that doesnt last very long. But for hours after doing these two movements, my head just doesnt feel quite right. I asked the trainer on staff and he was saying how the traps tighten up during these movements and something occurs where the muscle attaches at the base of the skull. He also said there's nothing I can do about it...so now I turn to Elite. I wonder if this is the first sign of an overuse injury or something along those lines. Take note that I've never felt this before and it's only during and after chins or dips....thanks in advance.

Go to a chiropractor and get an x-ray. Mine did one on me and didn't believe what he saw. Not only was my spine nearly 2x as large and as dense as most everyone elses...but it was totally straight from the spine to the skull. There should be a curve in my neck that allows a bit of a cushion for my skull/brain to sit on. There isn't on mine...mine is slightly curved the other way actually.

When you do your dips...try not to tense your neck too much...

Maybe someone else can help you more than I can...

when doing your chins...dont shoot your chin up to the bar.

when doing dips dont jut your head forward. my guess is you tuck your head down which puts a big stretch on the cervical extensors. couple that with your traps contracting and its a bunch of pull back there.

on both movements concentrating on tucking your chin.

do you ever stretch the front of your neck? when you walk or even stand still do you look up or down?

my guess is you have forward head (at least when you exercise) which means you tend to jut your chin or head forward.
