I'm on synthroid {200mg} almost 7 months, how much can I use for losing fat??? Doc gave me this for support my thyroid. I'm on Parlodel {bromocriptine} now too. I take 2.5 mg daily. He treated me for amenorrhea.

thanks

Synthroid ("T4") is not really used for "fat loss" so I guess I wouldn't look to it to do more for you than just manage your thyroid. I especially would be very careful about self-medicating outside what your doctor prescribes as well as it may hose up the purpose of managing your thyroid.

I'd highly recommend reviewing ways to optimize your diet & training before looking for pills to do it for you (because basically they won't if your diet & training aren't tight already).

thanks, doc told me that I should be lose littel bit weight on this medication, but I think it does'nt work for me. What do you think about parlodel?? I have seen some read that people use this for fat loss.

Hi Sasa,

Pills are like 3% maybe of your overall results. Why even LOOK at pills until you know that your nutrition and training are dyno-supreme? Diet and training will give permanant results - pills won't.

The gals on here are awesome - lots of resources available for accomplishing your goals for the long-term (would you like to be HOT at 50?) are right here on the site! I'm still getting my nerve up to start logging - maybe you'll beat me to it!

The GOAL of Synthroid is not weight loss. Any doctor that tells you that Synthroid will cause weight loss is greatly overstating the ability of T4.

Correctly balancing your thyroid will help you lose weight. Until the thyroid and other hormones are in balance, weight loss will be very difficult. Since you are under a doctor's care, and have been for quite awhile, I think the best thing is to discuss possible pils and such with him/her. If you are not happy with the results or care he/she has given you - change doctors.

T4 is given because it converts to T3 in the liver. It is used when liver conversion is o.k., but levels are low in the thyroid. Any type of dieting is going to slow the liver's ability to convert T4 to T3, so it is useless for fat loss.
