im really not sure why, but my shins are killing me..everytime i walk they hurt. I have been walking every second morning (for about an hour) outdoors - hills, flats and declines...could it be from this?
If so..can i continue to go for a walk again tomorrow or will this aggrevate the muscles more?

do you stretch? do you have comfortable shoes? or maybe it is the inserts in your shoes, not enough cushioning. even though walking is a lowimapct exercise, you could benefit from a little stretching, before and after your walking session.

yeah, sounds like shin splints. the best thing you can do is get a real pair of shoes. i recommend new balance as long as you know how you pronate when you walk. i got rid of my shin splints with new shoes and just kept on running thru the pain. it sucks, i know. most people/doctors say to stop running and do low impact. as usual, i dont listen to anything they say. good luck with the pain.

The reason that people get shin splints is from running or walking on uneven ground. What happens is the outer cover of the bone(periosteum) starts to peel away from the bone. I think if you try to stretch the front muscles of the lower leg, which attach to the tibia, it will help to alleviate your problem. I have worked through shin splints but if it gets to be too bad then take some time off. Also, I suggest filling 2 ziplock baggies with flour and them putting it in the freezer. Then after you walk put a baggy on each shin. This way the flour will cover more surface area then the ice cubes. Crushed ice would work pretty good, too.

the doctors told me I would never get over mine,

and I said "oh yea stick a thermometer in you ass!!!"

so Instead I continued running, and added stretching of those asccociated muscles.

and after about 3 weeks of grueling pain, I mean pretty bad pain, One day they just went away,

and I swear I have not had one instance of shin splints ever since.

your mind and your common sense will be your best guide, just be a little stubborn, and touigh and I am sure you will get through it.

dude's right.

since you are walking inclines or hills, you basically spent an hour with your anterior tibialis flexed, it hurts like hell cause its sore like any other muscle. stretch and lay off the walking for a while. you can stretch it by simply sitting on your feet, with your toes pointed.

Cure for sore shins

Hey,

You have shin splints, it is caused by the raising of your toes when you are walking, & as you do it more powerfully & faster you use the muslce that pulls the foot up, which is basically the opposite muscle to your calves as they push you up. The best thing to do is go to a step & face away from it & place your foot on the step & let your big toe take the presure & you will feel the stretch as soon as you are doing it correctly, once you can feel it, slowly move the presure on the big toe from side to side & you will be able to feel where it is tight & work that area the most. Do this prior to walking & when you feel it tighten as you walk & once again afterards. SO you can keep walking & it will heal it self, to clear it up the fastest have 2 days of with stretching & it will be ready for action. Hope this helps.
