Little (long!) story, no point to it really, but this is probably the best place for it
My girlfriend originally started up lifting with me because its something I love and she wanted to understand and share it, which was great of her. So, we trained about twice a week for a couple of months pre-beach holiday. It was all weights (ONLY deadlifts, hang cleans, squats, pushups/bench, and rows), no cardio (she's been a cardio junkie in the past). These things alone were major breakthroughs. For example, before we got together, when we were best friends, we had monumental debates about the merits of cardio v's weights She's a stubborn and headstrong girl, but that's the way I like her.
Anyway, she gave me 6 weeks to get her results to justify continuing lifting. She worked incredibly hard, and I probably pushed her a little too hard at times (though I don't think there is such a thing) at times - and she told me so After two months we were still at it and she didn't want to stop, so much so she even wanted to hit the weights while at a lazy beach resort (which we did!). Her 1RM deadlift was almost 1.5 times her very small bodyweight after the same 8 weeks (don't know exact time frame, but its close).
Currently she's on a layoff, having hurt her lower back using very poor form to put a deadlift back on the ground (she's so embarrassed, because her technique is golden!). With our busy schedules she's just maintaining at the moment with a single, massive weekly workout, and she's glad she gave it a shot in the first place.
Deadlifts and cleans really put some beautiful traps on her. Unfortunately this photo doesn't do her justice, but you can certainly see some of the fruits of her labour. I'm a lot happier than I look in the pic, seriously!
Obviously, I'm mighty proud of her.
