The extra work on the shoulders can hurt recovery and take away from bench progress. That is why the shoulder work should be done as assistance work and not for primary development. This only really affects people that do all 3 lifts bench, squat, dl. If you are a bench only guy than your shoulders arent being destroyed on squats and dl so you could do it as a primary movement.

Thats why the programming is important.
Ex. Mon: upper bench focus
Tues: lower quad focus
Wed: off
Thurs: upper ohp focus
Fri: lower ham/glute focus
I believe that is a basic template that could work for almost any one with a few tweeks. It works very good for me. YMMV
