I Need an alternative to Crystal Light

Burning_Inside

Elite Mentor
So I decided to give Crystal Light a go yesterday for the first ever to add to my water to get myself to take in more water daily. Then I do some research online to find very bad stuff about aspartame, so I'll be discontinuing usage. I take in small amounts of products with aspartame here and there, but I'm talking like 2 of the small little crystal light packets daily. I think I'd probably end up seeing the bad side effects from this stuff like others see with this kind of intake. So is there any other kind of flavored drink out there that won't kill you, but has basically nothing in it?

You can try buying the drinks such as kool-aid that require you to add sugar.

Then instead of adding sugar, use splenda. It's not supposed to have as many negative effects as aspartame.

agreed, good idea.

Crystal light rules!

Not worried about aspartame at all. Remember when EGGS used to be BAD for you?

In 2 years or so, you can expect to see negatives about Splenda and chlorine (there already are negatives about this) and other articles/studies that show there is nothing wrong w/aspartame.

Science is ever-changing. As they discover new ways to "test" things, they discover new properties about the substances as well.

If you are one of the few on Elite who doesn't use/abuse juice or other "recreational" drugs then maybe I can see your point. Otherwise, that is the least of your problems.

I buy a soda called "Waist Watchers" it's made with splenda. Diet Rite is also made with Splenda.... Also try squirting lemons or limes into your water... Also, my local grocery stores sell their store brand of flavored 0 everything water....

~SC~ is correct tho, in another year aspartame will be fine & Splenda will be vilified, then vice versa in another year, etc....

I on the other hand very much am worried about aspartame. Wether or not something else in the future will be found to be bad also, well who knows, but what I do know is that right now today aspartame has the potential to be extremely bad for you.

Here is a web page I found full of 9 years worth of posts from people in newsgroups and messageboards all over the net detailing their trials with aspartame.

I may as well be considered "straight edge" (but please don't because I cannot stand that term or people who preach that lifestyle) and have been this way for many many months, and have only ever done one cycle almost a year ago.

And from what I have researched, aspartame dangers far outweight any dangers available through careful usage of any steroids and some recreational drugs. I've never heard of anyone having seizures or partial temporary paralyzation from steroids or pot.

You're right, I've never heard of anyone having seizures or paralysis from steroids of course there is a thread on the anabolic board where people were contending that there were DEATHS attributed to the use of steroids. It sounds like you now lead a very healthy lifestyle (no longer using steroids) so I think you're perfectly justified in your choice to stop using aspartame (not that it matters in the slightest what I think). ;)

Burning_Inside,

You're no longer a newbie, aren't you ?
You're not a moron, are you ?

So, please look for "real" info on aspartame
holisticmed website is full of non-scientific shit

It's more dangerous to read that crap than to consume crystal light

i personally have started to play it safe and get only the all natural 100%whey. i love it. i for a while also did not realize sucralose was splenda, and its in almost all of protein shakes. if anyone knows of an MRP that has casein protein and has no aspartame sucralose/ splenda or acesulfame k lemme know.

eat big

Just to make one thing clear....

Did you look beyond the URL the info is hosted on?

Everything in the text page was compiled, as I have stated, from many varied sources across the net over the last 9 years. They are posts from everyday people about their issues just like the posts on here. Holisticmed had no involvement with the outcome of the numerous stories posted. They just compiled the info and are hosting it.

This whole site is simply not serious

As for as people claiming bad experience with aspartame, you'll have as many complaints with regular sugar, wheat or any other food

So are you saying you feel safe using steroids and/or "recreational" drugs but not Crystal Light?

Just squeeze some lemon into a jug of water - just a little don't think lemonade - just think hint of some flavor.

I don't care about the whole site, I'm talking about the text page I linked containing, once again, and the last time I'll type it out, 9 years worth of posts across various internet messageboards and newsgroups not connected with holisticmed, portaining to bad side effects of aspartame ingestion.

And I'm not talking about regular sugar or other foods. Artificial sweeteners. If you want to stay on topic, cool, if you have a bone to pick, try elsehwere.

careful usage of any steroids and some recreational drugs

I and I think everyone with 2 brain cells to rub together and are interested in the topic know that there's been enough research into steroids and certain recreational drugs to know that there are definite safe dosaging techniques.

Aspartame is still somewhat of a mystery.

And please don't try and drag me into an anti steriod or general recreational drug arguement. if you're against them, woohoo for you. If not, fine, but this chatter doesn't belong on this thread anyway.

Just do what you need to, we'll do what we need to, etc.

To each his very precious own.

Well like I said, pay no attention to the site that hosts it, pay attention to the posts and letters from people which are in the page. Bottom line is aspartame is dangerous. It's erratic and unpredictable, and can be more or less dangerous to each and every person on the planet. How do you know if you're one of the people it'll come down hard on? I guess you need to wait and see, but I'd just rather not continue on the stuff that long to wait and see.

I guess we'll agree to disagree on the safety of aspartame :)

Anyway, if you don't want to use it, there are a lot of other artificial sweeterners which don't contain aspartame (saccharin, cyclamates, splenda or acesulfame K)

Yeah, I appreciate his concern over aspartame as it's good to be aware of what you are ingesting, so I'm not downing him for posting about it. I just don't see it as a big deal, but I guess we'll have to wait and see further on down the road. In 1990, 2 whole eggs per day was supposedly going to raise my cholesterol to unsightly levels and cause all kinds of issues, and 14 years later, it's now touted that eggs/cholesterol are really of NO issue, as the person's body-type and their OWN inherited cholesterol production is what REALLY matters.

All good, this is only discussion. :)

I read some people include at least a gallon of that (crystal light) a day in their diets. I would wonder about ingesting all the citric acid.

What's wrong w/ citric acid ?

Lemon juice = citric acid

DeltreeFitness said:
Many things are not bad per-say in small amounts but when drinking gallons a day is when it may become an issue.
Agree but I would be more concerned about phosphoric acid
