I hate rap music

kid5er said:
yeah mainstream rap you hear and see on the radio and mtv sucks....

but check out artists like ATMOSPHERE, Sage Francis, The Grouch, Murs, Benefit, and some others.
Some of the most thought provoking and intelligent lyrics I've heard out of ANY music genre come from all these guys.they are nothing like GuNOT or whatever.

I'll check em out buddy, thanks. More people like you should post in here. You gave me options and other things to try that might change my mind instead of just labeling people as racist. I do appreciate that. :)

Yeah hiatussin, put an end to everything you dont like. If Hitler were still alive, he would approve. Hey I have an end solution for you. Change the station to something you enjoy and quit grousing about the music you don't like. Censorship sucks!

Krishna, I'm sorry that you had a rough time when you are younger, but I think your cause and effect may be backwards. I think your attitude, friends, lifestyle at the time influenced what music you related to, but I don't think that the music created your attitude, choices of friends, or lifestyle. You are definetely a good guy now, and I give you kudos on turning your life around.

I listen to hip hop, and I like to think that I'm the kindest, most gentle-natured person you will ever meet. I don't really think that listening to nelly sing about his "grillz" or beyonce singing about her ass is really going to make me go out and commit felonies...lol. It's just fun, mindless entertainment.

I don't really listen to much hard core, gangsta rap but I sure don't think it should be censored. How come no one mentions some of the hardcore lyrics in rock music? I mean, we have a bunch of white guys on here saying to censor rap because of the violent/sexual lyrics? Hello? Rock songs have just as many explicit lyrics.

Others argue that hip hop has corny lyrics. This was the argument in a recent post about the "grillz" song. Gosh, there are corny lyrics in every genre. Not every song is meant to be deep. Really, does the classic party song, "Shout" make any sense? Nope, it is just fun to dance around to. God, I could list so many songs in country music, rock music, r & B, etc that are pretty damn corny, but we white people hear something corny in rap music and we want to ban it?

It does seem racist to me to only be bothered by explicit lyrics/corny lyrics in the genre that has mainly black singers. ???

I think you're right that my mentality provoked me to listen to that music, but it's biconditional in that it goes both ways. The music also definitely influenced my behavior too. I don't really see you as listening to the kind of shit I used to listen to; it was pretty hardcore. It seems more like you like the mainstream stuff that's more just fun than anything, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's not really what I think of though when I hear the phrase "rap music", but I guess times have changed, and that's what it is these days. If you listened to the stuff I used to, you'd get a better understanding of what I'm talking about and where I'm coming from.

I understand ya Krishna. It seems that you have come a long way in your spiritual journey and I am glad to hear it!

That stuff was actually kind of mainstream for me. I'm talking more hardcore bro. Stuff like Lynch Hung, Mr. Doc, X-raided, No Limit - C Murder, P, Crestside - Celly Cell, Mac Mall, SCC, Nip, Ren. I've actually forgot about most of it, but someone earlier in this post jogged my memory a little. West Side Connect was kinda cool back in the day though.

I just despise the lyrics. If my daughter wants to poison her brain with that shit, nothing I can do. But I can't stand to hear it. Makes me wanna puke.

So you went from why are white kids listening to it, to now its the lyrics. So its ok for blacks to hear things that all races of kids are involved in. Extacy, Cocaine, Pot, Sex, Gang Bangs, ect.... the reason why rap is so popular with people from their middle 20's down to teens, is because they can relate. Irregardless of race, kids and young adults relate. For being a self proclaimed non-racist, you should think before you post.

"Isn't she lovely, isn't she wonderful. I can't believe what God has done, through us he's given life to one, and isn't she lovely......."

Stuff like that.

I like sevendust lyrics in "headtrip" Shut the fuck up, shut the fuck up! having a biracial child, white and black, it is rather disgusting to read something from a guy behind a computer who is that open with his thoughts. Makes me wonder what people who see her actually would think. Bashing on something because you don't understand it or agree with it, is just like the islamic extremist. Not even close to the same degree, but very simular content.

Hey Krishna! I have never even heard of even one of those bands, and I think listening to the music that is really angry would wear me out. I would be interested in hearing some of the rap that kid5er suggested. I like all kinds of music, depending on my moods. However, even if I hated the music that you used to listen to, I support the artists' rights to express themselves free of censorship. In response to UA Iron's comment about "why do white people listen to rap?" Surely he is joking. ??? Anyway Krishna, surely you are not suggesting that we should sterilize musical content to not contain any hostile or negative content because it may influence people to be negative or hostile? The very idea reminds me very much of the novel, "A Clockwork Orange." Scary stuff.

I'm not saying we should censor anything. All I'm doing is pointing out the influences that music has on people, and asking the question: Why would you want those messages pounded in your brain? What is it inside of us that draws us to such vulgar "expression"? For me that desire is something that I've transcended, and to go back and listen to it again would seem juvenile. A lot of people do things without even knowing why. Then when someone plays devil's advocate, they are quick to defend their ways because they don't know any better. If one were to objectively and logically contemplate the reason they liked that music, they would find no good reason to listen to it. I think ultimately most people would choose not to, because most people are good natured, and those messages don't mesh with their innate spirit. People are blind to themselves, and out of balance. Most people don't know why they like or do the things they do, they just follow.
