I hate rap music

Regardless of the lyrical content or the social implications, I just don't like the sound of rap. The basic concept of someone talking rhythmically over a repetitive semi-musical track does not appeal to me. I find it conceptually vacuous even before you add on the lyrical content or message. Without harmony and chord changes, it has none of the qualities that I find interesting in music.

I agree. Being a musician, it's hard to appreciate rap as music. The way they string some of those loops together almost seems like a 5 year old did it. Rap really isn't even a form of music in my opinion.

I have to listen to that ghetto shit everytime I take my daughter somewhere. Why do young whites listen to this crap? I used to loathe country music, but now if my daughter puts it on a country station, I'm in heaven compared to that rap crap.

As an accomplished musian I personally don't consider Rap as "music". I'ts about as simple a form of music as you can get and still get off calling it "music", 3 to 4 notes max in the melody if it even has a freaking melody, and mostly just rehashed sampled shit that someone else invented.

Love to see them idiots in a music theory class. LOL

It too shall pass!

Exactly! Rap and hip/hop used to be all about telling a story kinda like spoken word but with beats. Now, all most artists do is resample old beats and even rythms from very old songs. Also, the lyrics are about blingin, ho's, strip clubs, etc. It's not about telling how life is on the street or whatever may be going on in that persons life.

I've said it about rock and I'll say it about rap. It's become overcommercialized due to MTV. They are all about appealing to the masses and getting that video on MTV instead of digging deep and writing some real shit.

IF YOU AND YOUR DAUGHTER HAS NOT COME TO A SOLUTION BY NOW-THERE IS PLENTY OF RAP SONGS-AND I AM SURE YALL CAN GET A LIST TOGETHER THAT YOU WILL LIKE SOME. RAP MUSIC GENERALLY DOES NOT HAVE A MELODY-IT IS JUST A BUNCH OF TALKING. I HATED THAT OLD COUNTRY MUSIC TOO-I USED TO WEAR HEADPHONES IN THE CAR (WITH MY PARENTS). BUT YOUR DAUGHTER REALLY NEEDS TO EXPAND THE TYPES OF MUSIC SHE LISTENS TOO.

I dont know why all rap is being grouped together into one big group. Some rap is about getting educated, percerverance, and other socially praised topics. Its not all about cars, bitches, and money. All in all almost all music share the EXACT same themes in most of the songs. Its just they way its portrayed that is different. The racism in this thread is making me sick. Narrowminded people who cant open there eyes and look at it from another point of view.

I used to hate country music. Does that make me a racist? That fucking word racist is so overused.

'Cause you have to go out of your way to look for the ones that aren't about cars, bitches, money, and shoes. That's what's on the radio, on BET, on MTV, and what gets played in the dance clubs. The "positive" rap is underground, uncommercial.
