Here's my DF 5 x 5, modified

Jim, you know I would have to make fun of you for hang cleaning in a mirror, right? ;)

The bench story...that spotting stuff sucks, but you handled it well. I agree...you can either get mad, or you can calm down and realize that you will just try it again and get it next week.

Nelms, I lift at a Bally's - there's a mirror in front of me on every one of my lifts, except for bench.

I have to turn my head for that one

What? No mirror over the bench? What kind of cheap crap gym are you using?

:lmao:

I am VERY supportive of mirrors over the bench's!! I am thinking that gym's all over the world should adopt this concept. :qt:

honey, we use that for...

ummm.....never mind, everyone.

Move along. Return to your homes and places of business. Nothing to see here.

Hang Clean + OHP

95 x 3 x 3
115 x 2 x 2
125 x 5 x 3, 2 x 2

Form wasn't that great until my very last rep of my 5th set, so I did a couple more just to practice. I wasn't whipping my elbows under the bar fast enough for some reason. Once I did, it felt a lot better. Kind of anxious to try some heavier weight to really bring out the flaws ;)

Dead
135 x 5
225 x 2
275 x 12 x 2

Kind of a lot of sets :) Pretty light again, no back pain at all. I alternated between conventional (6 sets) and semi-sumo (6 sets). I did all my conventionals with a light mini and they were pretty easy, really fast. I changed my form a little bit, I used to have the bar almost touching my shin when I started, always thinking that it's safer. But today I started with the bar over where my shoelaces starts ala Rippetoe. So my shoulders were a little behind the bar, and I was able to bend my legs a little more and get my hips down. Hard to say if it helped since the weight was pretty light, but it did feel a tad bit more solid, I'll have to see how it works as I start to try some heavier weight.

My sumos were slower (no band), I kind of feel like I'm just pumping my legs up and down. I also wonder if psychologically when I have a band I concentrate more on acceleration.

Chins
20 x 3 x 6, x 5

Wow I'm really starting to suck at pullups. I get tired so easy, right around the 4th rep. At this rate I'll be fighting with my fellow gym rats for time on the lat pulldown :(

Also, today some guy was doing what I can only describe as a sumo smith machine shrug. His stance was way out and he was leaning backwards almost 45 degrees while shrugging 225 on the smitty. Good stuff.

Hang Cleans

Bar x 2 x 5
95 x 2 x 3
115 x 2 x 3
135 x 2 x 2
155 x 5 x 3

Can't see my form was all that great. Not that it was a problem but I felt like I was leaning back to much on the catch. I guess that means I'm not dropping under the bar. Oh well.

Squat
135 x 6
165 x 6
185 x 6
225 x 6

225 felt heavy after not squatting for several weeks, and not this many reps  . Form was alright I guess, did a pause squat my last couple reps, back felt fine. I don't think it's an issue anymore, hopefully.

Bench
Bar x 20
135 x 5
185 x 2
225 x 1
255 x 1
275 x 1
310 x 1
225 x 8 (narrow grip, shoulder width)

Well I finally got my 310. My buddy was spotting me and he knows not to touch the bar. Might've been the slowest rep known to man but I was able to lock it out.

Might've been able to get 225 x 10 on narrow grip but you know how triceps are...

BB row
135 x 6
155 x 6
175 x 6
185 x 6

Pretty fast and easy, although 185 kind of made me raise an eyebrow on my 5th rep.

Overall: Can't wait for my vacation to be over so I can begin training in earnest again. Past couple days I've felt fatter and skinnier :worried: So I'm happy I got my bench PR today.

I forget - how are you setting up the bands for deads? Pics would be cool but you're such a cunning linguist that I bet you could make sense of it with words :)

Did some today, here's the vid. I'm using the small band (25-80lbs, according to the website), sometimes I use the light-mini. Had to double it up to take up some slack, although you can see there's still some at the bottom.*

Also, 315 was probably too heavy, as I wasn't blazingly fast with it. But I certainly couldn't post a vid with anything less than 3 plates ;)

*I usually step on the ends of the band and there's no slack; however, the other day I was messing around showing my nephew (I think it was a 65lb barbell), and wearing some regular shoes. The band slipped out from under my feet and smacked me right in the nuts :worried: My neph was howling, as was I, although in a different way. So now I step 'inside' the ends of the band, so I'm only stepping on one - seems a bit safer

Thanks Tweakle, much appreciated. I got some funny looks from a couple guys benching next to me who did the math and were like 'WTF just put 3 plates on' But that rep was a true grind, 5 more lbs woulda buried me lol
