Decided on weight loss . . .

I think that i will get my bf down before i try to put on considerable muscle mass.

I am 18, 180, 5 9. I think i should aim for about 1800 cal, and then i do cardio at night (approx 300-400) cal worth. ( I do 4 laps fast, 4 moderate, and run up 4 stories 7 times over all at once.

Should this result in fat loss, and if i want to minize muscle loss, should i continue to hit the weight room and eat the majority of my cals in protein?

Cardio, for fat loss, is more benefitial in the morning on an empty stomach, since you will burn stored fat. When you do cardio in the middle or at the end of the day, you will most likely burn the calories that you have consumed through out the day, rather than what has been stored. Either way, though, cardio helps. Just don't over due it, too much carido can hinder muscle gains and even promote muscle loss.

Keep doing the weights. Although you won't gain much mass during a cutting cycle, you will get better toned, more defined muscles to work with once you finish cutting and are ready to bulk.

Just my $0.02

thnx for all the info.

Also, i figured to around to get around 1500 net calories a day. Will this take off 1b or so a week?

Lastly, will it hurt if i only eat say 1500 cal, or eat say 1800 and burn 300, giving me 1500 cal as well.

BtW, my routine is 2 miles, alternating modertate and fast lasts. Also, i run up the stairs of the stadium. I figured it to be about 20 stories up and 20 stories down.

I tried the low cal thing, and just got scrawny. I'm doing awesome on Atkins. I've been popping some diet pills for energy plus coffee before my workouts. I keep the lifting to an hour, then do 30 mins of eliptical (400 cals). Strength is not suffering at all and I've lost about an inch on the waist in a month. I don't count calories, but I do make sure that most of my calories come from protein. I eat all day and am never hungry. I will tell you though, an hour of squats will deplete all of your energy and you'll need a major nap, same with clean and presses. So don't plan on going out the night of a taxking work out, you'll be drained. Once I can see definition in my abs I'll switch over to a CKD work diet and then hopefully return to a sensible carb protein mix. But for now I have to accept that fact that I'm a fat boy who needs to get his shit together before he tries to bulk again.
