Decent Snack Food Replacement?

I posted a similar question in the Muscle Food forum, but I thought I try here also.

I get killer carb/salt cravings, and at times, give in like crazy.

Any suggestions for a healthy alternative?

Salted nuts? I know you said carb cravings too, but the nuts should make you feel full.

A craving for salt may be a sign of a mineral deficiency.

If you are going to use salt then make sure it is unrefined sea salt as this will have more natural minerals than the refined table salt which you are likely using. It should have a lumpy texture to it. If it flows freely when poured then it will have aluminum in it -- not what you want. If you want to use salt but keep your sodium levels down then go with a low sodium salt where the sodium will have been replaced with potassium or magnesium.

Salt cravings are also linked with an electrolyte imbalance, adrenal gland problems, low energy levels (a craving for carbohydrates), and diabetes.

If you are not too close to competition and you are at home you can make your own yam/potato chips. Thinly slice (use grater), place on foil on baking sheet, spray with butter flavored PAM, LIGHTLY salt (optional) and bake 30 min @ 350. It is a nice break from oats and brown rice. Also, LIGHTLY salted rice cakes are a great idea-very low in carbs and salt. You can have 2-4 without that guilt and it should keep you away from the junk. Remember its a lifestyle, not a punishment to avoid the saturated fat/junk. :Chef:
