CONSTANT Diziness

Since I've been dieting (loose interpretation of atkins), I feel dizzy and tired alot. Makes it hard to focus on reading and working out.

I almost feels like I'm on drugs. Here is what I take:

- a multi
- vit c -2000mg / day (plus there is some in my b-complex and in the multi)
- vit e - 800 iu/day
- b-complex
- MRI's NO2 - 5 per day in the am
- xenadrine efx - 2 per day

I thought perhaps I was having low blood pressure but I check and it is fine (it USED to be HIGH...now it is within normal range).

I don't THINK it is not enough carbs as I don't really restrict my carbs. I just rarely eat the things that made me fat (pasta, bread, potatoes) anymore. Besides as I mentioned in another post they give me headaches (which are almost guaranteed to happen if I eat them since I started on this diet). I don't actually track but I believe I'm getting 30 gms minimum of carbs. Any ideas what might cause this?

It's almost like my body is fine but my brain and eyes just want to sleep. It's quite unnerving.

it's common for you to get light headed on low carb diets
It's called postural hypertension for the most part when you stand up quickly

usually you adapt to this and when your brain starts using ketones for energy as opposed to glucose you should feel better

It just occured to me that I'm taking two prescription meds:
- gemfibrozil - to help cut my triglyceride and cholesterol
- lithium - for bipolar disorder

I wonder if, with the changes in my diet, one of these meds is now too powerful for my blood chemistry. UGH!!! Can't see my doctor until January!!

since you embarked on a cutting diet, especially low in carbs, your triglyceride and chole levels should be greatly alleviated (this was proven by numerous studies) along with making the job for gemfibrozil that much easier. I doubt it is causing any of it.

HOWEVER, it is well documented that Lithium (which one are you using BTW) can be quite toxic, and some of the symptoms of toxicity include dizziness, confusion, visual distortion, etc...check that thing out.

Juve,

I take 300MG Lithium Carbonate twice a day. However my blood level has not been checked in a while. I was thinking perhaps it was the Gemfibrozil but after your post reminding me of the symptoms of Lith tox I think you might be right. Though this is a "low"er dose, it might be too high with the blood chemistry changes that must surely be going on within.

I've checked everything I can from home, including blood pressure and blood glucose levels....they are fine.

I will go next week and have a lith level check.

Thanks

did you check with your doctor before starting this diet
and is he aware of you sups

some sups do not interact well with meds

if the dizziness does not go away in a week

IF ANY ABNORMAL FEELINGS DO NOT GO AWAY IN A WEEK GO SEE YOUR DOC!!!

Thermogenics like xenadrine make me more light-headed than I normally would be.

Try dropping that for a few days and see if it improves at all.

Just a thought.

If you're taking genfibrozil and lithium, you should not be taking any forms of thermogenics unless stated otherwise by your doctor. I suggest you check in w/ you MD and see if there is a problem. Remember, no ones' advice here can replace what a doctor can tell you; thus, I suggest you go and check the possible problem - it can be bigger than you think.

Ordinarily I would say that is sound advice Mr.X save for one tiny issue. If I were to take my doctors advice, I wouldn't be taking ANY SUPPLEMENTATION OF ANY KIND!!! No vitc, vite, no multi...NOTHING!!! According to her, the human body just won't use supplements.

Since we all know this is B.S., I decided quite awhile ago that I would have to do this on my own. That's one reason I use xenadrine EFX instead of a TRUE ECA stack which I know would work much better.

However I will go in and get my lith level checked and at least try to tell her all that I am doing.

Ok, I'll take that back; your CURRENT doctor is an idiot. Get a NEW doctor.
