Cleans and Deadlift Relation...

Ok...i have hit 5 set of five with 445...can hit 500 for one rep...
Haven;t been doing too many cleans...
Will doing cleans/or hang cleans increase my explosion on the deadlift?

OR

Will doing deadlifts help me with exploding with the weight on the clean?

Karma for any replies.

when i was in high school i did tons on cleans from the floor and very little deadlifting(maybe 2 times a month really heavy if that) i pulled 600 my senior year easy. i think the cleans really helped with my line of pull (which of late isnt great) and speed(i didnt do the oly style clean, i just ripped the bar of the ground). although i think they were a contributor to the shoulder problems so dont overdo the cleans, but i used to love them.

The form is slightly different between the two, but the leg drive from the cleans should carry over to the deads.

I have added high-pulls to my back routine and have noticed that it helps me with my speed off the floor on deads.

Deads I'm sure could help with cleans or other olympic pulls with regards to strength. But I implmented the OL to increase my deadlift.

I guess it would depend on what your goals are on how you implement one or the other. Increasing your OL's or increasing your deadlift.

CCJ could probably offer some good insight on this.

It can help, oly lifters tend to have pretty big deadlifts without doing any deadlifts so there is transfer, since both more or less work the same muscles, oly lifts for speed and explosion and deadlifts for limit strength.

you just have to be careful with form issues, you cna get confused like me :)

but since I do sumo now, less of an issue
